Rolling Pins - A girl can NEVER have too many!!!

So I wanted to share with all of you my collection of rolling pins. Exciting huh. I'm actually pretty proud of them, it's taken me a while to collect them, there aren't a ton, but don't they look cute just sitting there in that crock. I have no idea what the spikey one in the middle is for but I think it's cool. It's one of my favorites, I could probably make a ton of money if I sold it on e-bay :)

I like these a lot too. Especially the one at the bottom. Once again, I have no idea what it's used for. Any ideas?

This one I have hanging above my stove. It has cool burn marks on it. Can't you just imagine some sweet little grandma making tons of apple pies with it. Not me though, I keep it right there where everyone can see it. I'd hate to cook with it and ruin the beautiful luster. That would be a shame.

In all seriousness though, if theres some sorta rolling pin expert out there, I really would be interested to know what the weird ones are for.

Nicole,
Thanks for leaving the comment on my blog. I'm definelty a newbie at all of this. Your children, too, are beautiful and I LOVE your family pics you've posted.

I must say, I've never heard of anyone collecting rolling pins :)

Hey, I'm with Shanna, or twinkly twinkly! I've always loved your rolling pins but none of them are as good as my marble one because I use it (I also talked Shanna out of it). In all seriousness - you have to show off your kitchen because it looks amazing!
Kiss Grandma's babies - I love you all!

Great collection! Have you searched ebay for the names/purposes of the unusual ones?
Thanks for visiting my blog and for the offer about your family's business. I live north of Salt Lake and usually don't go into the "big city" that often. However, I do design consulting so if you let me know the name of the store I can pass on the info to others.

Love the rolling pins. The fancy ones are for making fancy designs on your top crust. At least that is my guess. You do have a lovely collection. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Your blog looks great! Better and better every time I stop by! Did I tell you I finally got a fairy blog mother? Thanks for all of your help!

I have never made cards before...however, your swap sure is tempting. Maybe post some pictures of some of your cards so those of us who have no clue can see some:)

Hope you are having a wonderful Memorial Day!

Maybe they're for weird cooks, who had to invent their own rolling pins. Whatever, I'm weird. Maybe the spiky one is a tenderizer and the other one is some kind of breadstick or noodle slicer. Wouldn't i t be interesting to know? Google them.

Hi Nicole :)

Thank you so much for coming by! You have a beautiful family :)

I think the one rolling pin with the pointy things all over it, is for tenderizing meat, because it looks like my meat pounder.

Have a beautiful day!

Those are awesome! i love how you have them displayed! Super cute! i wish that I could help you with the purpose of them-but sorry-i don't even own a rolling pin that i actually use-I might just start collecting after I see your cute collection. I might just have to start gathering some of my own. they would look great up above my cupboards or in my hutch. thanks for the ideas! Make sure that you keep me posted on the card swap.
have a fun day! Come on by and say hi!

Hi Nicole!
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. Yes, I've heard of Shepherd's Bush! I've stitched several of their designs and I've ordered from their shop - never been there but who knows!
Love your rolling pin collection. I personally dont' own a single one! I hope to someday get the one my mother has that belonged to my great-grandmother. I 'think' my great-grandfather made it.
I don't make many pies - but when I do me and the dough boy get along pretty well!

Thanks for commenting on my blog about the bag. I was starting to get a complex that no one was saying anything. LOL! Love the rolling pins. Some kitchen stuff was just better in the old days. I have an old potato masher, a flat whisk (a treasure from my grandma) and a biscuit cutter. Would love a hand held beater! I also have an old wooden rolling pin. I was wondering if the spiky one was for tenderizing meat and the one with the sections for making noodles? Just a guess! (I also love old washboards and have a tin one and a glass one!) Love your blog and you have a sweet little family.

happy late birthday!

I was at Michael's today and looked down the scrap booking isle and saw lots of card stuff. Looked fun! Do you typically buy a kit?

I am so drawn to rolling pins in antique stores. There is just something so neat about them. I like to collect wooden spoons. I wrote about it awhile ago.

Aha! I knew I remembered someone posting about rolling pins. I was looking through old magazines, to tear out what I wanted to keep and throw out the rest and came upon a whole article chock full of pictures about collecting rolling pins from Martha Stewart Living. If you'd like it, send your address and I'll mail it to you. kristi(a)whiteaker(dot)org.

The spikey one is actually for making flatbread - like hardtack, lefse or lavash. The spikes prevent air bubbles from forming in the dough when its baking, resulting in a thinner crispy bread.
