I decided just to go ahead and do a tutorial along with the pattern - hope you can use it!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxecAQyAzTyrZx2qe4SrNty9oKInG6pVSGwuKYcSybS1t8bi-NVtmQwfIGVwuGirCheBQPdJ0Q0ojP05q8u5nSJUv7X6zf5Qz9J8yCdyEVZuRHgeu_-CJ17JzwzWlWRVwoN6_94KXxyQwz/s1600/quilted+baby+bib+tutorial.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="356" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxecAQyAzTyrZx2qe4SrNty9oKInG6pVSGwuKYcSybS1t8bi-NVtmQwfIGVwuGirCheBQPdJ0Q0ojP05q8u5nSJUv7X6zf5Qz9J8yCdyEVZuRHgeu_-CJ17JzwzWlWRVwoN6_94KXxyQwz/s400/quilted+baby+bib+tutorial.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<u>Here is a list of things you will need</u> - These are instructions for making two bibs.<br />
30 coordinating 2 1/2" x 5" pieces of fabric<br />
2 - 13" x 11" pieces of minky fabric for the back<br />
2 - 13 x 11" pieces of flannel<br />
Dritz heavy duty snaps and tools (pictured below)<br />
Bib pattern <a href="http://www.4shared.com/photo/GDrdhEKl/bib_bottom.html"><b>click here</b></a> & <a href="http://www.4shared.com/photo/732UfupR/bib_top.html"><b>here</b></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Step One -<br />
Organize your fabric so you have five strips of fabric across and 6 down. <br />
<br />
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK1GHIWLlsPkn0GdWB0iCQLjZSGgFoES0LCW6kGWS6XMFixGJW7znLp1pjaIxtle678bIYLtywQK5bVwHjoUPY7WDkCXIFOs9I0icBUcWjpJUhLpS5oLyKExdwruNvOfaafoY5N5awFR_8/s1600/jerusalem+651.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK1GHIWLlsPkn0GdWB0iCQLjZSGgFoES0LCW6kGWS6XMFixGJW7znLp1pjaIxtle678bIYLtywQK5bVwHjoUPY7WDkCXIFOs9I0icBUcWjpJUhLpS5oLyKExdwruNvOfaafoY5N5awFR_8/s400/jerusalem+651.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Step two- Taking a row at a time sew your pieces of fabric together - making sure to keep the fabric in the order you have them organized in step 1. Use a 1/4" seam allowance for entire bib. Iron.<br />
<br />
Step three - Cut each row of fabric in half so that they are now 2 1/2" long.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtgfDStG4-pj37EHp397VLiHHKZviM2z4bQWoaU6RenVI0v2GaJp_mqTXT95kJdOmYBza1jsxLbw1gwUg3CJ08RfW1Y8FxXngZvUCABoUJoOtv8vLMV176Zdp-fxH8x2Cxn-jn7Xv7DAzd/s1600/jerusalem+652.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtgfDStG4-pj37EHp397VLiHHKZviM2z4bQWoaU6RenVI0v2GaJp_mqTXT95kJdOmYBza1jsxLbw1gwUg3CJ08RfW1Y8FxXngZvUCABoUJoOtv8vLMV176Zdp-fxH8x2Cxn-jn7Xv7DAzd/s400/jerusalem+652.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br />
Step four - Sew each row of fabric together pinning at the seams. You should have two pieces that look like this. Iron.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyGuvcvc9AEP06xHKFkv6zQ3SYDNM7C2XzEH_LO3BK7hv6C4Cr3zHCjVaXxOx8aqRtsG4SAxPD-cJNtkXsOQyG_02RinXYKsvMnf_JxHb6rnYIZ1zt0LAWchyucYRrjVayoJIAhI9xjgEX/s1600/jerusalem+654.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyGuvcvc9AEP06xHKFkv6zQ3SYDNM7C2XzEH_LO3BK7hv6C4Cr3zHCjVaXxOx8aqRtsG4SAxPD-cJNtkXsOQyG_02RinXYKsvMnf_JxHb6rnYIZ1zt0LAWchyucYRrjVayoJIAhI9xjgEX/s400/jerusalem+654.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Step five - (my favorite part) Quilt your fabric with a piece of flannel on the back. I just did cross hatch quilting. A little hint. Always go the same direction. I start in the middle at the top and sew down to the bottom. Then starting at the top again - sew down to the bottom, repeat this until all your vertical lines are quilted. Then start on the side in the middle and do the exact same thing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSBgL9I5ZyvGuv4okIx4_vy7nD6Nxh1MuKKZEOm8tM_EqqVmE8CTA4ICC7mHixXAq_wlbJnbnR_9yZIh0q0EGO_3E4EeFAU3GhiidG9S9AKgWO5B-IAUtaYObCkyUXpGgC9rRz0ZbdBGJW/s1600/jerusalem+656.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSBgL9I5ZyvGuv4okIx4_vy7nD6Nxh1MuKKZEOm8tM_EqqVmE8CTA4ICC7mHixXAq_wlbJnbnR_9yZIh0q0EGO_3E4EeFAU3GhiidG9S9AKgWO5B-IAUtaYObCkyUXpGgC9rRz0ZbdBGJW/s400/jerusalem+656.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Step six - Trace pattern onto the quilted fabric. It will be a tight fit, but it will fit. If for some reason it doesn't just adjust the length of your bib pattern a little. Sometimes on these bibs I sew a row of ric rac on just for a little extra. This would be the perfect time to do that. I attach the ric rac on the seam that connects the 4th and 5th row, just sewing right down the middle of the ric rac.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCS3FWmmf6sapyurUALEgd1n39yMAxajvD3X4caIXu6OQ2ABpoozgBu9XdQD70U-j95yojweOMi3da6Cq982VsbKH6no0cP0a1nCtFDhlpY-gi5n1uoM45mC7RVr_2NMTOEyh0eGloTVAA/s1600/jerusalem+657.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCS3FWmmf6sapyurUALEgd1n39yMAxajvD3X4caIXu6OQ2ABpoozgBu9XdQD70U-j95yojweOMi3da6Cq982VsbKH6no0cP0a1nCtFDhlpY-gi5n1uoM45mC7RVr_2NMTOEyh0eGloTVAA/s400/jerusalem+657.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Step seven - Cut out bib<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6koCvLgoo_SIDjeqHE-ED6FWTpQpOEviNM_6aS0b554ewHZJ3FGfAUHMV8os3C1ySPxLQ9v0UpmSWr8cp7z8IlxhR0JfLlJdhSikcrv5se_Myr8D1_8tUDJdQR8dLsHU6bxIKchUPT-6b/s1600/jerusalem+658.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6koCvLgoo_SIDjeqHE-ED6FWTpQpOEviNM_6aS0b554ewHZJ3FGfAUHMV8os3C1ySPxLQ9v0UpmSWr8cp7z8IlxhR0JfLlJdhSikcrv5se_Myr8D1_8tUDJdQR8dLsHU6bxIKchUPT-6b/s400/jerusalem+658.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Step eight - Pin bib onto your minky fabric with right sides together. Start on the right side and be sure to back stitch at the beginning and end. Leave about 2 - 3 inches un-stitched so that you can turn the fabric, inside out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitkFUOwcgAuj8XNvWd7n8C1T1s8PcP7t2MOcIQjG20Z1vMuWm1HA3ypuc74VmnWLCMywQD2DfE-Bl3BTWzul5HDTOFJsaVtfFW0CzcYjbM9pPvAaY-pR_5Wr40uXK2Uz7sPFa6ffZw7NBl/s1600/jerusalem+659.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitkFUOwcgAuj8XNvWd7n8C1T1s8PcP7t2MOcIQjG20Z1vMuWm1HA3ypuc74VmnWLCMywQD2DfE-Bl3BTWzul5HDTOFJsaVtfFW0CzcYjbM9pPvAaY-pR_5Wr40uXK2Uz7sPFa6ffZw7NBl/s400/jerusalem+659.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Step nine - cut around the edges and turn. Sew the opening closed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV7YSaNxgeGactsryODNQoDCJ7RqTYi1T8SapavVlXJRIb4zNJWeSe1ahORyBDBK4ZZyehkALkIpjSZKTmPuG-rPjZgmd5FBO5QACQhIXuYEKxysfWmIHdnAURAk-N0Dq8tM9LxOpKE4tR/s1600/jerusalem+660.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV7YSaNxgeGactsryODNQoDCJ7RqTYi1T8SapavVlXJRIb4zNJWeSe1ahORyBDBK4ZZyehkALkIpjSZKTmPuG-rPjZgmd5FBO5QACQhIXuYEKxysfWmIHdnAURAk-N0Dq8tM9LxOpKE4tR/s400/jerusalem+660.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>Step ten - Attach the snap - here is a picture of the snaps I used. These are pretty heavy duty, you could of course use something different. I just have a hard time when my babies turn into toddlers getting them to keep their bibs on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtluheJglip0hhdiQrs92wTDr7rUvKmYnqIcQICEKTUdNqHYQCLJfMcSC6gj_JgRyMr-0aa3Ijy7Nd4cTgqjm1lYIITmM_IjEbcqObRsgP023qyP9cULbxQYEs19ZHSPKHsrqF9xS127jZ/s1600/jerusalem+662.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtluheJglip0hhdiQrs92wTDr7rUvKmYnqIcQICEKTUdNqHYQCLJfMcSC6gj_JgRyMr-0aa3Ijy7Nd4cTgqjm1lYIITmM_IjEbcqObRsgP023qyP9cULbxQYEs19ZHSPKHsrqF9xS127jZ/s400/jerusalem+662.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
A little note - I just used the tip of my scissors to make a hole to fit the snap through. Directions for attaching the snaps are on the back of the package.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqj4HwuDrgZJLbhl4EYnNdsyS1MnzJvlvN6byT0f1Z4HtL_D1twivCK92ZOkpehXsYZ-CN_f2a_vNjAd1ocrzQ9e-JKimVEmvYqL2-iCv5g080UYzeuIWUmZORtYtdGO75t6dG0-2O63Jq/s1600/jerusalem+663.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqj4HwuDrgZJLbhl4EYnNdsyS1MnzJvlvN6byT0f1Z4HtL_D1twivCK92ZOkpehXsYZ-CN_f2a_vNjAd1ocrzQ9e-JKimVEmvYqL2-iCv5g080UYzeuIWUmZORtYtdGO75t6dG0-2O63Jq/s400/jerusalem+663.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">And ta-da your done.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmVYj4MScQg-Q-cuAsW2oN4cG_A5VotoCwY2_TJJoTX1cSu1Ttu9lgD5Pnk-lRVHWmYYB6VHpduI5KvyYU8Cxe1GOr69iaG7SGM9Qenx43gpMxTCzcXX17g1i4fmCHe-rAgdmVRmDc7DYn/s1600/jerusalem+664.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmVYj4MScQg-Q-cuAsW2oN4cG_A5VotoCwY2_TJJoTX1cSu1Ttu9lgD5Pnk-lRVHWmYYB6VHpduI5KvyYU8Cxe1GOr69iaG7SGM9Qenx43gpMxTCzcXX17g1i4fmCHe-rAgdmVRmDc7DYn/s400/jerusalem+664.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
These bibs make the perfect baby gift. I like to put it with a couple matching burp cloths. By the way, the fabric I used is called Hometown by Sweetwater for Moda. They don't make it anymore, but you may be able to find it on etsy or something. A charm pack works perfect for this project.<br />
<br />

I've decided that's my new favorite thing to make. It works up much quicker than a quilt and takes much less fabric. So, you might be seeing a lot of these since I have a couple more birthday's coming up. My little niece Ashley turned 5 so this pillow is for her. <br />
<br />
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7IApEumGz0O6Lt43ZzdMNQaQQeVwvA5KMORrVaV-jiC2kvzMtWb3lM59KllGoWJv0FsaWb2SiLtQWDKucmVCyYC7R0wL3QXPTlFH79EpxTNUqYWjq_XvGUo0unmsJOiL0HgvR5iOyAFFH/s1600/jerusalem+647.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7IApEumGz0O6Lt43ZzdMNQaQQeVwvA5KMORrVaV-jiC2kvzMtWb3lM59KllGoWJv0FsaWb2SiLtQWDKucmVCyYC7R0wL3QXPTlFH79EpxTNUqYWjq_XvGUo0unmsJOiL0HgvR5iOyAFFH/s400/jerusalem+647.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
My daughter actually make the cute little blanket in back. She'd been wanting me to teacher her to sew forever. Awhile back she was struggling with anxiety and I thought maybe teaching her to sew would keep her mind off of all the worrying her little brain was doing. I cut out 5" squares and let her arrange them and sew them together. She did an awesome job.<br />
<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyoLP_6PmyHWoeTU0ZkDuH_8L0bEJWxGasyPWnLkUuTviw0BTQXWHAkNni6ohOcyems97jOuexV86zfTYI62FofaaXsWJOU-3IGQ8l3Ieqt0eJkBAVRgvkvAqsDz-m2JhYMlxLX4Mx0zXp/s1600/jerusalem+645.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyoLP_6PmyHWoeTU0ZkDuH_8L0bEJWxGasyPWnLkUuTviw0BTQXWHAkNni6ohOcyems97jOuexV86zfTYI62FofaaXsWJOU-3IGQ8l3Ieqt0eJkBAVRgvkvAqsDz-m2JhYMlxLX4Mx0zXp/s400/jerusalem+645.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">My good friend Jenny had a Birthday and I wanted to make her something special. She likes to sew also, so I knew she would appreciate something like this. It's just a little covered notebook. I still need to make three more for friends birthday's that I've missed.................I'm such a slacker.</div><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">Sorry, you probably getting sick of seeing these tags sewn into everything. I just love how they make things seem and little more personal.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

It was the last day of school for my kids this last Friday. I have LOVED their teachers this last year and really wanted to do something special for them. I found these Welch's sparkling lemonade's at Walmart and thought they looked so good. The card's kind of cheesy, I'm not to creative with words.<br />
<br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">Today is the first day of summer break for my kids. I always have a tough time with that last day of school. I'm glad to have my kids home, but I'm always sad to say goodbye to their teachers, they've had such good one's. My daughters teacher was so sweet with her, especially when she was going through her anxiety. She even sat and cried with me over seeing her struggle. She's an amazing lady. She and her husband have adopted 8 children.</div><br />

He's always struggled a little with stuttering and she has been so great in helping him get the help he needs. This is him on the last day of school. It was also Pajama day:) I was sad to learn she is transferring to a different school next year. He has loved her so much, he even asked if he could go to summer school.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

Wish me luck!</div></div></div>Nicolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04595099393803175375noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-850622966956915487.post-13928585088609836412012-05-24T15:41:00.000-07:002012-05-24T15:41:12.505-07:00Baptism and Baby Gifts!<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">I've been busy sewing this week. My niece is getting baptized this Saturday and I wanted to make something special for her. Her mom is my twin sister and I'm sad I won't be able to make it because they live in Canada. Anyways I saw a pillow similar to this on Pinterest awhile ago and decided it would make the perfect gift.<br />
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkN9ggeTR9Xyv-Ti010nVlKd8Rfxg8Dt5qFy7MUyQUyLUsATPno8Qh3WIqyYAvK7VYZGROGfXNFH2G2QiUe4FYFGB-xVc3q7A_R4bzxo3THFJL0Esv0L4V41njQ_6gugIkhJttFwigY9Kj/s1600/jerusalem+625.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkN9ggeTR9Xyv-Ti010nVlKd8Rfxg8Dt5qFy7MUyQUyLUsATPno8Qh3WIqyYAvK7VYZGROGfXNFH2G2QiUe4FYFGB-xVc3q7A_R4bzxo3THFJL0Esv0L4V41njQ_6gugIkhJttFwigY9Kj/s400/jerusalem+625.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>Of course I'm still using my favorite fabric, Ruby. And I'm still loving cross-hatch quilting. Really, I love hand quilting best, but I didn't have time.. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQtV6x3iOZpsPyCo3RlUAONZaYcu9vC9E6xowAcMkIvwqCRpVopTnoJ6st9hfpYDntbXjEi4_Z-n9p3nJZTxByiCZRGW-XUUEMTqOV4DNGKkVT9X248wy-WO0Lrn6Vtemzox_76St5TKH3/s1600/jerusalem+617.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQtV6x3iOZpsPyCo3RlUAONZaYcu9vC9E6xowAcMkIvwqCRpVopTnoJ6st9hfpYDntbXjEi4_Z-n9p3nJZTxByiCZRGW-XUUEMTqOV4DNGKkVT9X248wy-WO0Lrn6Vtemzox_76St5TKH3/s400/jerusalem+617.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I stitched her name using all 6 strands of DMC floss because I really wanted it to stand out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiobSphbCXBzrZegPPhFaa5VU5IFte7KDxjvgAbvJqzFkvabJhj3jNeqwxU6HBjiWGDt_6TD6BAkNYuNeIu0mLS-NxlB3ub8Q68K7geQO_mPrGnyC9EhiwIIabwCeVlceExc9X3exO0vYNv/s1600/jerusalem+624.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiobSphbCXBzrZegPPhFaa5VU5IFte7KDxjvgAbvJqzFkvabJhj3jNeqwxU6HBjiWGDt_6TD6BAkNYuNeIu0mLS-NxlB3ub8Q68K7geQO_mPrGnyC9EhiwIIabwCeVlceExc9X3exO0vYNv/s400/jerusalem+624.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
And of course I really wanted to use one of my new fabric labels (<b><a href="http://ourcozynest.blogspot.com/2012/03/tutorial-making-your-own-fabric-labels.html">tutorial here</a></b>)<span id="goog_923228316"></span><span id="goog_923228317"></span> for a little extra touch. The best thing about this project, (my husband will agree) is I actually had everything and didn't have to go to the craft store once. Although I was super close to running out of thread.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSXYfPCh8KGMKFsIYQg3OaD3HdmhD_RrbwqX3YWAl4ty5K4gZFGfxIz5Oa9OyGipwCZuk9cEgmwg92GDwyJb45UR0L8fAeXNVJ3dqhTEXBQGdyANMWGvcF0XDPhuaNV1_X3nNL5hnYvaMT/s1600/jerusalem+620.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSXYfPCh8KGMKFsIYQg3OaD3HdmhD_RrbwqX3YWAl4ty5K4gZFGfxIz5Oa9OyGipwCZuk9cEgmwg92GDwyJb45UR0L8fAeXNVJ3dqhTEXBQGdyANMWGvcF0XDPhuaNV1_X3nNL5hnYvaMT/s400/jerusalem+620.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
My little 5 year old sons preschool teacher is having her first baby girl so I wanted to make some special for her. She has three boys and is so excited to be having a girl. I remember when they didn't think they would be able to have any children. They adopted their first and have been able to have three since then. Anyways she is such a sweetheart and awesome teacher. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV56rD947McxfyLuBwi8ZqxMAm4WFmaec0tF3urP39eH8S8c5e99s8V6ZUw_V7IDR3fV-QBDfTzNBAa5_gU7N3AtqnESe13iK3-COMD3Cw-aB-Mba-6T33HyL3QON2n78oFtK15rC5RhEP/s1600/jerusalem+623.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV56rD947McxfyLuBwi8ZqxMAm4WFmaec0tF3urP39eH8S8c5e99s8V6ZUw_V7IDR3fV-QBDfTzNBAa5_gU7N3AtqnESe13iK3-COMD3Cw-aB-Mba-6T33HyL3QON2n78oFtK15rC5RhEP/s400/jerusalem+623.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Last time I made burp cloths I used ric rac down the sides, it was kinda a pain so this time I just used it on the little decorative strip of fabric on the front. It was tons easier and I like it a lot better. On the blue one I used some lace from Riley Blake that I think turned out pretty cute.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj95NbjyWmv8AXm7BWWh1nvDlT5sSXdqOGIGJOETVQV3UMIUul030l2bLgU2ZnH7Kux1k7eCvmjw5FyUNR7DNusSZY95Dbmw5p3FRk5q_rRJ0d3r4uVINQ8B19jopQST8oHF6G4Vh1tQgQs/s1600/jerusalem+621.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj95NbjyWmv8AXm7BWWh1nvDlT5sSXdqOGIGJOETVQV3UMIUul030l2bLgU2ZnH7Kux1k7eCvmjw5FyUNR7DNusSZY95Dbmw5p3FRk5q_rRJ0d3r4uVINQ8B19jopQST8oHF6G4Vh1tQgQs/s400/jerusalem+621.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
And another label!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1eL4kAEUqyHsz3Kqd81JVDxbLzwz24WeX2WjhVdE5AKdwPdQFqMIL25Sb8I2EKtokkPFxWeUeX0HCK0hAv3xf7Jen-bFtTrL5BaepnDVVZEqyqQN8Bc8WRnCT1r3xLTeYqwtaejk4-lrD/s1600/jerusalem+626.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1eL4kAEUqyHsz3Kqd81JVDxbLzwz24WeX2WjhVdE5AKdwPdQFqMIL25Sb8I2EKtokkPFxWeUeX0HCK0hAv3xf7Jen-bFtTrL5BaepnDVVZEqyqQN8Bc8WRnCT1r3xLTeYqwtaejk4-lrD/s400/jerusalem+626.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
So that's what I've been up to. My kids have one week of school left and I'm super sad. Not because they will be home more, I'm just always sad to say goodbye to their wonderful teachers - and it means my kids are growing up faster than I'd like. My oldest will be in 6th grade - the thought makes me a little sick to my stomach, why does it have to go by so fast???<br />

I thought I would share a few pictures from the trip..................we took hundreds, but I don't want to overwhelm anyone so here are just a few.<br />

There are a ton more pictures.............maybe I'll post them another time. Thank you all for your well wishes for me and my husband on our big adventure. I was pretty nervous about leaving 4 little ones for so long. I missed them a ton, but it was a great experience. I'll post some pictures of some projects I worked on in a couple of days! <br />

I've been sick to my stomach the last few day at the thought of leaving my four children for so long. I've only ever been away from them for 4 days - how on earth am I going to handle 16 days. Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited - I'm blessed to have this opportunity, it's the chance of a life time.<br />
<br />
I read this article today from the Utah Deseret News. It's better than any crafty post would have been I promise you. So often, I loose perspective trying to keep up. If your like me - this article will be a breath of fresh air to you.<br />

I so wish I was kidding about that, but I'm not. I don't know this project was such a challenge for me, and honestly...................I'm still not all that happy with it, but I just don't have the time to make another one. <br />
<br />

I should make it clear that I did not follow the pattern for this little sewing kit that can be found <b><a href="http://lotsofpinkhere.blogspot.com/2011/10/12-gifts-of-christmas-blog-hop.html">here</a></b>. I don't know why on earth I just didn't follow the pattern, instead I figured I would just figure it out on my own. (Not the smartest idea). I still need to sew some velcro onto the bottom of the strap in the middle. The little strap is what holds on a couple spools of thread.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6vCt-1UmXBoCgvzA0HLiHnRMr9yELxhWeNrbogdGZ9K7BM7TLZOcpNkZ1ED4ByGVNGE_UXrPW8kclPhYKigmtVqF_iadPBMfCbX8w7CDQT3eWwNSb7Mv8w-rcZoTITjL2IhY9qkHf0gWC/s1600/pictures+235.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6vCt-1UmXBoCgvzA0HLiHnRMr9yELxhWeNrbogdGZ9K7BM7TLZOcpNkZ1ED4ByGVNGE_UXrPW8kclPhYKigmtVqF_iadPBMfCbX8w7CDQT3eWwNSb7Mv8w-rcZoTITjL2IhY9qkHf0gWC/s400/pictures+235.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>This little sewing kit was also supposed to be a little bigger then mine turned out. Every time I would fold it into three like the original, it pulled the fabric all weird with drove me crazy so I ended up cutting off about a third of it. Oh well! It's done! I do love the fabrics - They are so vintage and colorful. I bought them over <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/sewdeerlyloved?ref=si_shop"><b>here</b></a> in a bundle. I don't think she sells them in a bundle anymore, but you can buy some of the pieces separately.<br />

My husbands parents are taking us on a tour of Jordan, Jerusalem and Egypt. I'm super excited and scared and nervous, you name it, I'm probably feeling it. I'm super lucky that my parents are going to come and watch my kids while we are gone, or I don't think I could leave for for the two and a half weeks that we will be gone.<br />
<br />
I may try and get a post done before we leave this Saturday, but if not I guess I will see you all in a couple of weeks with I'm sure a lot of stories and pictures to share!Nicolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04595099393803175375noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-850622966956915487.post-34444791507769923782012-03-22T17:54:00.000-07:002012-03-22T17:54:34.847-07:00Tutorial - Making your own Fabric LabelsI've wanted some fabric labels forever to sew onto things I make. I just think they are cute and make things more personal. Ok, and Nana Company always sews cute labels onto everything. I'm to cheap to order any so I though I'd try and make some by myself. I was pleasantly surprised when my little idea worked. I thought maybe some of you would like a tutorial so you can make some of your own. I think you'll be surprised at how easy it is.<br />
<br />
<u>Items Needed</u><br />
- 9x12" piece of fabric<br />
- 9x12" piece of light Heat and Bond<br />
- Iron<br />
- <b>Ink Jet</b> Printer<br />
<br />
<br />
Step One - Iron your fabric onto the Heat and Bond. Do not take of the paper backing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIAakaCKA5k0WtDygbGEdYHzRju4lueDztAegtm8L_jlQbTeLql3FknMY-cvFmPwJ692e-EP8OOM0jlsY1e89iWQOXQ0bYIMlx1hDS67igQss7EnwSKSuDMUegom51bv8vUbwu11tKSbYg/s1600/pictures+227.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIAakaCKA5k0WtDygbGEdYHzRju4lueDztAegtm8L_jlQbTeLql3FknMY-cvFmPwJ692e-EP8OOM0jlsY1e89iWQOXQ0bYIMlx1hDS67igQss7EnwSKSuDMUegom51bv8vUbwu11tKSbYg/s400/pictures+227.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Step Two - After you've ironed the fabric onto the Heat and Bond, cut it down so that's it measures 8 1/2" x 11". I ironed mine again after this just to make sure it adhered well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5QJKnCIQ1qxiNoVmgsCR4suTLXzmER1e6mOUD-_cScpe5GFbSCuBFlLiicQlfAhg6y1XG_P3WR2INS1SAHO3yI18JLSEy_DKCY3YJJJ5om5hb9SUkMkmCgz7Drxk3yq1r4bSDHMmXq3j8/s1600/pictures+228.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5QJKnCIQ1qxiNoVmgsCR4suTLXzmER1e6mOUD-_cScpe5GFbSCuBFlLiicQlfAhg6y1XG_P3WR2INS1SAHO3yI18JLSEy_DKCY3YJJJ5om5hb9SUkMkmCgz7Drxk3yq1r4bSDHMmXq3j8/s400/pictures+228.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Using Photo shop or whatever program your comfortable with, type up some labels. Load your fabric sheet into your printer and it should print just like it would on a normal piece of fabric. At the bottom of this post I've typed up some labels if you would like to download and print them. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimJ_No1DGdo7mCyeBeRsGlwEAlncT9rnOCeQ4wk2iOT-_wqQBDogFcA9RGZjKAJQ8E2z0MlM1SXJ6JvU0RYO7AQNOjUXLfcUasOSdVLWSr-ZSsb9ORXJI4Je4ayN18P2PzI9PqcDavdzpd/s1600/pictures+229.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimJ_No1DGdo7mCyeBeRsGlwEAlncT9rnOCeQ4wk2iOT-_wqQBDogFcA9RGZjKAJQ8E2z0MlM1SXJ6JvU0RYO7AQNOjUXLfcUasOSdVLWSr-ZSsb9ORXJI4Je4ayN18P2PzI9PqcDavdzpd/s400/pictures+229.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>I have heard that this does not work with Laser prints. I think the ink may bleed or something. I ran one of my labels under water just to make sure it didn't bleed. You may want to do the same before sewing onto your project.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz7szKZpNVss6XrpqGDsd7-Yn5WaUSSryz-zbmUhGqbQDcchyOiPnS5QEUQWhfqy3-IJQcH_I-kimFTjTynH8gjnNzELoppdVJDE1VLTu373SjGA3Gwyf8y45slON8DDMpiOtv5uHFOYB4/s1600/pictures+230.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz7szKZpNVss6XrpqGDsd7-Yn5WaUSSryz-zbmUhGqbQDcchyOiPnS5QEUQWhfqy3-IJQcH_I-kimFTjTynH8gjnNzELoppdVJDE1VLTu373SjGA3Gwyf8y45slON8DDMpiOtv5uHFOYB4/s400/pictures+230.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />

Here are some labels I made up if you would like them. I'm by no means a graphic designer so they are nothing special, but if you would like to download them just click on them!<br />

Most of them are having baby boys so I went hunting for some cute baby boy fabric. Even though this Hometown fabric by Sweetwater for Moda is from a couple seasons ago, it is still fairly easy to find and I love it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEcm9_FwNMQdE9y7ZuHCfxzgDvTDMoRh5Ro4rtxXCpd1qNxXtXeqsUjVdXGvnuZFgoy5Oi01ahg76xY2P6XoB0dkDQQo-EaYKy44siBh-TIvkhx8x6RzXLyGqUnywr2AOUMwozII1B9IA6/s1600/pictures+227+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEcm9_FwNMQdE9y7ZuHCfxzgDvTDMoRh5Ro4rtxXCpd1qNxXtXeqsUjVdXGvnuZFgoy5Oi01ahg76xY2P6XoB0dkDQQo-EaYKy44siBh-TIvkhx8x6RzXLyGqUnywr2AOUMwozII1B9IA6/s400/pictures+227+copy.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I'm guess I'm not really one for pastel babyish fabrics for boys. (I think that drives my mom crazy.) I really loved making this bib. Very rarely do I buy a charm pack that I love all the fabric in it. This one, I loved them all. I quilted the top with flannel so it would be a little absorbent. I also used this dotted minky on the back.<br />
<br />

I bought some gerber diapers at Walmart and really disliked them. I ended up finding <b><a href="http://www.clothdiaper.com/PRODUCTS/OsoCozy-Prefolds_2/Chinese-Prefold-Diapers-Bleached-dozens">these diapers</a></b> and they worked a lot better. I still had to iron them to make them look nice after I washed them, but the fabric was so much nicer than Gerber's. </div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

My son who just turned eight made the decision to get baptized. It was such a special day. My friend Sherri took these pictures of him in his brand new suit, he looks so handsome!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsgXNgUPq4rXAp5GyE76nLdFrdP7p-shbBJJq23ku_BCAYCoDmJwDiuMsWdPPy2rLRxxL-CZ3_U9DwgYLVdttSOAzmH0GvbwV4LznZlw1ctZynu8s7Nfa62kLcy5ThLyVJPOoszNyIHH2O/s1600/pictures+099.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsgXNgUPq4rXAp5GyE76nLdFrdP7p-shbBJJq23ku_BCAYCoDmJwDiuMsWdPPy2rLRxxL-CZ3_U9DwgYLVdttSOAzmH0GvbwV4LznZlw1ctZynu8s7Nfa62kLcy5ThLyVJPOoszNyIHH2O/s400/pictures+099.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
His baptism went great. It was so nice to have all our family here for the special occasion.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUXAyBkKCBWLuxiJ_yUNroOP1he-GS3nRFEZzvW4KArfiDIhFFdHi8jC5t7Mjg3Fb8M0wv78FQkFvuifCy5Dr2sB3B4BG_He6_B8WzlHLZoorFsjALraZfsszQGAuyWcEmmpmjl6dnn0KM/s1600/pictures+101.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUXAyBkKCBWLuxiJ_yUNroOP1he-GS3nRFEZzvW4KArfiDIhFFdHi8jC5t7Mjg3Fb8M0wv78FQkFvuifCy5Dr2sB3B4BG_He6_B8WzlHLZoorFsjALraZfsszQGAuyWcEmmpmjl6dnn0KM/s400/pictures+101.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
One more cute picture!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKZQVCJK7bBF7Oncuwz2I3bEZltaz9lIaRq3Jhp81Bzo9cOCf1lja1ktwrcW8MYatLgC2A0YCDMcbyyzfU9reTzpgOUeevfB93RyAWahXXfzsfnHUbChyphenhyphenLi4t3mM76FTZNf1d-LX37ge81/s1600/pictures+122.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKZQVCJK7bBF7Oncuwz2I3bEZltaz9lIaRq3Jhp81Bzo9cOCf1lja1ktwrcW8MYatLgC2A0YCDMcbyyzfU9reTzpgOUeevfB93RyAWahXXfzsfnHUbChyphenhyphenLi4t3mM76FTZNf1d-LX37ge81/s400/pictures+122.jpg" width="400" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Also, my little sister and her sweet family were sealed together in the Salt Lake Temple. It was so special to be able to be there and see her and her husband and sweet children sealed together for eternity. (Hope she doesn't kill me for putting a picture of her on my blog.) It was too sweet not to share.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq-EcN7nQvQt3h70tbFQ_5ajIuNl4SiO434DaN8uyOsLzOAi2eTkH-vyb4BRrZCPAJvPkW6S4CqT_OHLitP2s-xWzQc9ROtJkUi4amhDkpe4rkF45gL2FQG_BP0krbawdUfEnXaDvThCDG/s1600/pictures+129.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq-EcN7nQvQt3h70tbFQ_5ajIuNl4SiO434DaN8uyOsLzOAi2eTkH-vyb4BRrZCPAJvPkW6S4CqT_OHLitP2s-xWzQc9ROtJkUi4amhDkpe4rkF45gL2FQG_BP0krbawdUfEnXaDvThCDG/s400/pictures+129.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
This is a picture of the Salt Lake Temple that I took from the top of the Joseph Smith Memorial building.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEircqaMTZEiuEzh2C-MWKixg1neBxhxX8tQiOuXU9e0dDZcuY-xGwP322nBOII7pzGEHg8gEo39DLGp5vXBl6UZH_YWpD7oR6pmjT107m3OPd32JhjJzmeTV8t3v205bQjLSImcXJLLMPnf/s1600/pictures+149.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEircqaMTZEiuEzh2C-MWKixg1neBxhxX8tQiOuXU9e0dDZcuY-xGwP322nBOII7pzGEHg8gEo39DLGp5vXBl6UZH_YWpD7oR6pmjT107m3OPd32JhjJzmeTV8t3v205bQjLSImcXJLLMPnf/s400/pictures+149.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So as you can see, there have been some pretty important events around here and sewing has been on the back burner. About all I've done is wash and iron these soon to be burp cloths!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3rDjd7GkFvM1WZLrYp410p7_RAjFzRvxVy091-FlfQ5RGKs9rSD4owg4BpiSjs4ejneoa0RD9CoXBbV8sdnea2XcxqSjXCK6V6Cw-FgDcaU6woRaNkBvCblItrivgSaea6vWnalxLrbGN/s1600/pictures+214.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3rDjd7GkFvM1WZLrYp410p7_RAjFzRvxVy091-FlfQ5RGKs9rSD4owg4BpiSjs4ejneoa0RD9CoXBbV8sdnea2XcxqSjXCK6V6Cw-FgDcaU6woRaNkBvCblItrivgSaea6vWnalxLrbGN/s400/pictures+214.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
And I bought some of this pretty fabric that I've had my eye on forever. I bought it over at <b><a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/sewdeerlyloved?ref=em">sew deerly loved</a></b>, probably my favorite online shop to buy fabric.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDBbg26RW-BTcezDMsNjsvKXiIkMOelW4h0HndMSKaljD1s1XxodocDQKxUNOA8vzO_PY3Wm7_b6BM-7zzK5ci4n76F380Emk02v6GorOH0w7TsFjL0LbRDin7fqF82frPKmgsKKni3OQd/s1600/pictures+215.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDBbg26RW-BTcezDMsNjsvKXiIkMOelW4h0HndMSKaljD1s1XxodocDQKxUNOA8vzO_PY3Wm7_b6BM-7zzK5ci4n76F380Emk02v6GorOH0w7TsFjL0LbRDin7fqF82frPKmgsKKni3OQd/s400/pictures+215.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Hopefully soon I will get some time to work with this pretty fabric. I've got about a zillion things I want to make out of it. Including <b><a href="http://lotsofpinkhere.blogspot.com/2011/09/more-sewing-kits-and-some-fun-resources.html">this</a></b>, and <b><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/amyedunn/6935955071/">this</a></b>!Nicolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04595099393803175375noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-850622966956915487.post-39868872606170043142012-02-28T16:59:00.001-08:002012-02-29T07:54:19.723-08:00It was time.............Warning: You may find the image below graphic and disturbing. If you are a quilter / sewer / crafter, you may want to skip this post. I don't even know if I should be doing this. I mean after you see this I may be shunned from the blogging world of quilting and sewing forever. I'm sure I'll lose all my coveted followers but it's time you all saw.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Well here it is.........................the sewing ruler I've been using
since, well................since as far back as I can remember. It's
probably as old as me. I inherited it from my mom when she could no
longer stand to use it. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdTxs6pHADBFYt5EN85ocHqBZ2d18A42PjlXTooEs0NMGGDhAhkt5OIceebEHNqu6tMzM-hKb6QUbQiA1WsnSCXoeyn2sPkSEWq-sfexrmrcluJAEYKnSxjPg-J-M7QxLTZB3Cbg-yyEqj/s1600/pictures+125.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdTxs6pHADBFYt5EN85ocHqBZ2d18A42PjlXTooEs0NMGGDhAhkt5OIceebEHNqu6tMzM-hKb6QUbQiA1WsnSCXoeyn2sPkSEWq-sfexrmrcluJAEYKnSxjPg-J-M7QxLTZB3Cbg-yyEqj/s400/pictures+125.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
But the other day I just could not stand to use it one second
longer. I forked out $23.99 for this baby and can I just say it's the
best money I've ever spent (besides for epidurals). Isn't she just the loveliest piece of
plastic/fiberglass you've ever seen in your life.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXFupGqyRnzzX0jcrlh-QzCHpsR01xvvChAhlxjlF4ob-ZfMOoCCtOtSvFHX-tXAfhS-iZUxsBm9lQdG0Ndxi_sjstDKFWcViJRDkfVP_IpvtgGb4Fw7hAsq2lo8jukR0ypfzMy-kmUH2K/s1600/pictures+124.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXFupGqyRnzzX0jcrlh-QzCHpsR01xvvChAhlxjlF4ob-ZfMOoCCtOtSvFHX-tXAfhS-iZUxsBm9lQdG0Ndxi_sjstDKFWcViJRDkfVP_IpvtgGb4Fw7hAsq2lo8jukR0ypfzMy-kmUH2K/s320/pictures+124.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Now to help you forget the picture you just saw I thought I'd show you some pretty pictures. I can't take credit for these. I snapped a picture of these cute little creations the other day when my friend Cami and I were working on <b><a href="http://ourcozynest.blogspot.com/2012/02/soooooooooo-cherry.html">this quilt</a></b>.<br />
<br />
This is Cami's little miniature version of the raw edges quilt we made. I think it's so cute, it would make the cutest little table topper. She should probably just give it to me since she already has this.....................<br />
<br />

adorable table runner that she made. I love the colors she used, and the ric rac and of course the cute little cherries on the sides that I wish I would have gotten a close-up picture of. Notice the scrappy binding, I've never made a quilt with a scrappy binding before, but definitely want to try it.<br />

I'm so excited. I finally got my hands on some of this stuff. I Google it every once in a while hoping that some crazy person out there is trying to sell theirs. I was lucky, I found a quilt shop that had some charm packs. I think I'll be making a new table topper. I still love <b><a href="http://ourcozynest.blogspot.com/2011/12/merry-christmas.html">the one I'm currently using</a></b>, but after having it for three years, I've finally decided it's a little Christmasey! I'm a little slow!<br />

Tonight I have a baby shower to go to and so of course it gave me a good excuse to do a little sewing. I've seen some bibs like this on blogs and wanted to give it a try. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBuRe98iimV2SFk_DJdJlLAmlp7SsizZkpL6MGmLpz4A4jueijc7f3s9WQHPRTqKfc62b_4Pd0-lBmj4MqWmG4VNqwGl_Jqsv9ufnj2UNZA7OfRutK4czPQ_ylYYY_UXvY6iI4Z_EgJXGy/s1600/Copy+of+pictures+069.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBuRe98iimV2SFk_DJdJlLAmlp7SsizZkpL6MGmLpz4A4jueijc7f3s9WQHPRTqKfc62b_4Pd0-lBmj4MqWmG4VNqwGl_Jqsv9ufnj2UNZA7OfRutK4czPQ_ylYYY_UXvY6iI4Z_EgJXGy/s400/Copy+of+pictures+069.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm so addicted to this Ruby fabric. I have a real fear of running out of it. Every time I use some of it I have to go to the fabric store to replace what I've used. I love this lace by Riley Blake. If our local fabric store sold this, I would be replacing it also.<br />
<br />

Another thing I'm addicted to - Cross Hatch Quilting. I know this bib didn't need it, but I just couldn't resist. In turn - I probably made it a little too think - oh well, thick bibs are good right? I used some matching dot minky on the back and some ric rac for the edges.<br />

<br />
I've also been wanting to try <b><a href="http://www.diaryofaquilter.com/2010/01/perhaps-easiest-burp-cloth-tutorial.html">Amy's tutorial</a></b> for these burp cloths. I couldn't find the nice diapers she used, I'm not sure if they still make them. These are just Gerber Brand from Walmart, but they look sorta cheap. If anyone has any ideas of where I can find some nicer quality ones I'd love to know.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZi7uCPTGH7HYCRyvIujrIDEe9bRwQzQCxxJIcgan2yYqoLlWNkPL4egjyI3mXbMYJzJ24hn_-nHjUpzNxMFg__LX30AuwDZsCRQAJMNdGQdwj609a6EtJfRG59CsyC0rsf4slOoIPe_Iz/s1600/pictures+074.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZi7uCPTGH7HYCRyvIujrIDEe9bRwQzQCxxJIcgan2yYqoLlWNkPL4egjyI3mXbMYJzJ24hn_-nHjUpzNxMFg__LX30AuwDZsCRQAJMNdGQdwj609a6EtJfRG59CsyC0rsf4slOoIPe_Iz/s400/pictures+074.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Hopefully my neighbor will like them. I'll be making lots more because I think a good quarter of my neighborhood is expecting.<br />
<br />

One more quick thing - I had a comment asking me where I got the pattern for the So Cherry quilt. Sorry to say I didn't use a pattern. Me and my friend just figured it out together (mostly her). Maybe when things slow down a bit I can make a tutorial, but until then here is a few tips. <br />
<br />
- Before sticking on the squares I used a ruler and graphed out where I wanted the squares<br />
- We used a glue stick to glue on the squares before quilting.<br />
- Used a 1/2" border around squares.<br />
- Used 1/4" seams on sides of squares<br />
- My squares (I think) were 3 1/2" inches square. I already gave it away or I would measure them.<br />
- A walking foot helps a ton with this project<br />
<br />
Hope that helps a little. Feel free to e-mail with any other questions. <br />
<br />Nicolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04595099393803175375noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-850622966956915487.post-5900148530323603842012-02-16T17:01:00.000-08:002012-02-16T17:03:29.879-08:00Soooooooooo Cherry!A couple Fridays ago when my friend and I were on our little quest to visit all the Fabric Stores in Northern Utah we saw the cutest quilt in a store in Logan called Bernina's. We both fell in love with it and decided our next get together we would be making our own version of Bernina's quilt.<br />
<br />
I just finished up mine today. My friend is having a baby girl and I found out the other day that she loves cherries so of course this fabric So Cherry came to my mind.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIauo9CthuY2GW5C4mMJrdkbmPS7pNyL3MW8n3j_ce9gaCdlT0b5luO6tsn3FHaiHBvV4SqJys6CxD-7IrJq6uEm23yllnDfVLo6j_cYz-Ff-wdiqqXynXYl17Z_9liSDfNdhDrmdv8s1H/s1600/pictures+058.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIauo9CthuY2GW5C4mMJrdkbmPS7pNyL3MW8n3j_ce9gaCdlT0b5luO6tsn3FHaiHBvV4SqJys6CxD-7IrJq6uEm23yllnDfVLo6j_cYz-Ff-wdiqqXynXYl17Z_9liSDfNdhDrmdv8s1H/s400/pictures+058.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
I decided to use the green on the back and pink for the binding. I think I now have another favorite color combo, green and pink. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtcqyzoYxlLwlIqEx4jwiiaeAbZCezwp7eJtkppmIWk6U7EyFFHywwj5808qt_Impa9oYnw3vaBTZJ7y2ZMZ7vL-PcYGCgF-Hu9xChLs8qIP2VarZYSPTJ64NerM3fjwOc-yZkwXDwSKo8/s1600/pictures+059.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtcqyzoYxlLwlIqEx4jwiiaeAbZCezwp7eJtkppmIWk6U7EyFFHywwj5808qt_Impa9oYnw3vaBTZJ7y2ZMZ7vL-PcYGCgF-Hu9xChLs8qIP2VarZYSPTJ64NerM3fjwOc-yZkwXDwSKo8/s400/pictures+059.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
I thought about using a "raw edge" for the binding, but decided just to do a normal binding since my favorite part of quilting is binding the back by hand. <br />

<br />
Oh and guess what.................for Valentines day I bought myself a walking foot (I told my husband it was from him). I couldn't pay the hundred something dollars for the Bernina brand walking foot, but I found one on e-bay for half the price that claimed to work for Bernina's and be just as good. So far so good, it made this quilt so much easier than if I had used my normal foot. <br />

I feel bad it's taken me so long to get this posted. I'd forgotten how hectic Valentines Day can be. Making 70 something Valentines and 2 Valentine Boxes plus a craft for twenty seven 5th graders has pretty much swamped me.<br />
<br />
<b>Then winner is...................................</b><br />
<b>Comment #35 who is..............</b><br />
<b>Cindy from the blog - <a href="http://justanotherdayinparadiseagain.blogspot.com/">Just another day in Paradise again!</a></b><br />

You should definitely check out her blog. She made her grandchildren pillow pets for Christmas - they are amazing. <br />
<br />
Congratulations Cindy! <br />
<br />
And today my oldest son is turning eight. I know every mother says this, but when did he grow up so fast? I swear this picture was taken just the other day in our little apartment in Logan, Utah while my husband was finishing college.<br />

I have to brag a little bit about my sweet son. And when I say sweet I mean it. There isn't a sweeter boy out there.<br />
<br />
Sometimes in the morning while I'm in the shower, he sneaks into my room and makes my bed.<br />
<br />
When his older sister complains about having to do chores because she is too tired, he does it for her.<br />
<br />
Being the middle child he tends to get looked over more often then I'd like to admit, but he is so kind about it. He is definitely my easy child.<br />

Soooooooo, here is my Valentine shirt for my daughter. I say this every year, but I'm still shocked that she will let me make stuff like this for her. She's in 5th grade, I give it one more year (maybe) before she tells me to quit<br />

I know I said I would get this posted yesterday and you would be able to link up one of your Valentine Projects. This just took longer to put together then I anticipated. I will be showing another Valentine project on Wednesday and you will be able to link a project of your own. <br />

<br />
<br />I thought for my kids teachers it would be fun to make them these little heart hand warmers for Valentines day. I made a little tutorial in case you would like to make some too.<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: large;"><u>Supplies needed</u></span></b>:<br />
<br />
<b>Flannel</b> - this just depends on how many you want to make. Each heart takes two 5" squares of fabric. So for two hearts I would get 2 - 5" x 10" piece's of fabric just to be safe.<br />
<b>Patterned Fabric - </b>Same as the Flannel<br />
Rice - 1/3 - 1/2 cup of rice for each heart.<br />
<b>Pattern</b> - <b><a href="http://www.4shared.com/photo/SrqIDBWM/heart_pattern.html?refurl=d1url">Download here</a></b><br />
<b>Tags</b> - <b><a href="http://www.4shared.com/photo/_GU3xVvL/valentines_project_final_copy.html?refurl=d1url">Download here</a></b> (optional)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifkamQdqVBomCT9kPxzCnyYtFMN_KJRbWvMAFQyozGqw-IwQTUJRNBTusfnyUhWx2mNMso436CPKlQtFqrHoDPTjpjebgVh3kqslNmiEboaromzukxm6GZy7cjqJtApNx-CimJMCveJ2Qd/s1600/valentine+directions+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifkamQdqVBomCT9kPxzCnyYtFMN_KJRbWvMAFQyozGqw-IwQTUJRNBTusfnyUhWx2mNMso436CPKlQtFqrHoDPTjpjebgVh3kqslNmiEboaromzukxm6GZy7cjqJtApNx-CimJMCveJ2Qd/s400/valentine+directions+1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Step 1 - Cut out your heart pattern<br />
Step 2 - Layer your fabric - flannel, right side of fabric, wrong side of fabric, flannel. Trace pattern on the top layer and pin.<br />
Step 3 - Cut out your hearts<br />
Step 4 - Make sure your fabrics are layered like in picture #4<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4NnxFfPjI4te_6YsKJFy7r7kWUsHRZfAxBtb9P5yi78gHTpBnPXNtkrX0hIcLW7OnYWffnXKZz05mxbaOru1TJS_j5y9l1XjWKtrtjPYLODwc_ttK5ypxsgMRQPtt_G-hno4bn4Z_8GEU/s1600/heart+pattern.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4NnxFfPjI4te_6YsKJFy7r7kWUsHRZfAxBtb9P5yi78gHTpBnPXNtkrX0hIcLW7OnYWffnXKZz05mxbaOru1TJS_j5y9l1XjWKtrtjPYLODwc_ttK5ypxsgMRQPtt_G-hno4bn4Z_8GEU/s320/heart+pattern.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Step 5 - Sew around heart. Starting at the arrow (like in the picture above), start sewing making sure to back stitch. Sew around your heart, when you get to the point at the top, be careful not to go in too far. Stop sewing about 1 1/2 inches from where you started sewing and backstitch.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1tE70aJVxmu1rKmFaxDCoxlob25bGxeuYFF8S7JVfaS2tNg7sHrjE209HexT2JDkt5WAQhqo7tYaPotfjCKOD35cGm-dmwciZCOGd4UitY1nI2Ai8zLvD1yAhARoiBmQJLd20PNIx6QA8/s1600/Copy+%282%29+of+pictures+046.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1tE70aJVxmu1rKmFaxDCoxlob25bGxeuYFF8S7JVfaS2tNg7sHrjE209HexT2JDkt5WAQhqo7tYaPotfjCKOD35cGm-dmwciZCOGd4UitY1nI2Ai8zLvD1yAhARoiBmQJLd20PNIx6QA8/s400/Copy+%282%29+of+pictures+046.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Step 6 - Turn heart right side out with the patterned fabric on the outside of the heart. Fill our heart with rice. If your going to use your sewing machine to stitch up the heart be careful not to fill the heart too full or your presser foot wont stay on the heart as you try and stitch it up. Or fill it as full as you'd like and stitch closed by hand.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCSWjM6WLi6MOqb5O2SexPND1iRH8CLPAaP5R4YCn-uMCXk7ltogi1DQxWhV-EZGE3de_MUPRGjPTtSTv3ZHxwEODtPbqy0clspvtArB4-sb65ZvYhHL51jRzYIkRkuI94AA6ZkVddn7Ns/s1600/Copy+%282%29+of+pictures+039.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCSWjM6WLi6MOqb5O2SexPND1iRH8CLPAaP5R4YCn-uMCXk7ltogi1DQxWhV-EZGE3de_MUPRGjPTtSTv3ZHxwEODtPbqy0clspvtArB4-sb65ZvYhHL51jRzYIkRkuI94AA6ZkVddn7Ns/s400/Copy+%282%29+of+pictures+039.jpg" width="400" /> </a></div>
<br />
If you want to make the tags - just cut a piece of fabric a little smaller then your card-stock tag. You can make the tag easy enough, or I just bought mine at the local craft store. I sewed the fabric and happy Valentines paper on the front and the directions on the back.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It is seriously makes the best sugar cookies I've ever had. I mean with a lb of butter of course it has to be good. By the way I always use margarine and it works just fine. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I was going for something that looked Valentine-ish, but could still be used throughout the year. These were so much fun to make. I think this might be the new gift for friends Birthdays.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7wfHb7Fy70YP29F272BmfM7Z5C0K944RF1IkLKkSvJcnVL0xjW6mulxSzukzkU0h1u-yTY2qNzqGoORLFK9-sAV3YE3aoo8lkJ_BwsAeJTfdks0w2N5xLBIseZZyBZ41h9bT9uK4H12WC/s1600/pictures+029.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7wfHb7Fy70YP29F272BmfM7Z5C0K944RF1IkLKkSvJcnVL0xjW6mulxSzukzkU0h1u-yTY2qNzqGoORLFK9-sAV3YE3aoo8lkJ_BwsAeJTfdks0w2N5xLBIseZZyBZ41h9bT9uK4H12WC/s400/pictures+029.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I decided to use the aqua's, reds and pink from the Ruby line by Bonnie and Camille for Moda. I'm really loving these colors lately. My daughters room is in desperate need of a makeover so I might need to talk her into these fabrics. I used cross hatch quilting for the first time and definitely will be using it again. It's a lot of fun. I think I will deliver these with a pretty plate of heart valentine cookies. I'll post my recipe for that tomorrow, they are super good!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuxVzZNzE-DU7HxFAiShKN4vulygoZ64T9TNJbpIsfcWbsLAj7NbCHjcKrmwG7J9EfWMkbL2UzP37_nr-ObRTGeXUkM_MszEBHrHE-xGMnXD8oKNwoSYNzPxycOF-OCcHvgtbQ4_H_suu5/s1600/pictures+030.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuxVzZNzE-DU7HxFAiShKN4vulygoZ64T9TNJbpIsfcWbsLAj7NbCHjcKrmwG7J9EfWMkbL2UzP37_nr-ObRTGeXUkM_MszEBHrHE-xGMnXD8oKNwoSYNzPxycOF-OCcHvgtbQ4_H_suu5/s400/pictures+030.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I am thinking however that I need to get a walking foot. Do you have one? Would you recommend getting one? Are they worth the money - since they are not cheap?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvqk2pFP_1b6tfC9fdsLm9FfdSSDKg9Hf8A7m8w95eFU5aaBe2mMeegmQ0Sgp2-p8AAdoQnZKJrNGGXdfSbBGVU1YrkUp93GnKyE1nio0QGwkOaZIxFg0VWw838q9Yd6BLtBaSzFghAT0P/s1600/pictures+028.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="294" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvqk2pFP_1b6tfC9fdsLm9FfdSSDKg9Hf8A7m8w95eFU5aaBe2mMeegmQ0Sgp2-p8AAdoQnZKJrNGGXdfSbBGVU1YrkUp93GnKyE1nio0QGwkOaZIxFg0VWw838q9Yd6BLtBaSzFghAT0P/s320/pictures+028.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here are a few little tips for making these hot pads.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
- I used 2" x 9" strips of fabric so I could make four hot pads and have a little room for a nice straight edge.<br />
- Use two layers of thin batting.<br />
-When quilting I only quilted the top pieced layer and one layer of batting. The other layer of batting and fabric for the back I added when I stitched on the binding.<br />
-The idea for the tags came from Nana Company's blog (of course). I'm almost a little embarrassed I copy her so much.<br />
- Used a 1/4" seam allowance.<br />
<br />
Hope some of your can use this for a little Valentine gift!Nicolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04595099393803175375noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-850622966956915487.post-59691385247010391532012-01-30T19:11:00.000-08:002012-01-30T19:15:52.075-08:00A week of ValentinesI meant to get this posted much earlier today, but it's been one of those days. You know the kind, tons of errands, laundry, grocery shopping, piano lessons. Plus it's early out schedule this week for the kids in school. So just to add to this already hectic week I've decided to have a week of Valentine ideas. I have a lot of half finished projects so I figured this would force me to get them done.<br />
<br />
Here is the plan - I will have some valentine projects of my own this Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Then on Friday (If I can figure it out), I will have a post where you can link us up to your valentine posts. Weither it's something you sewed up or cooked - whatever, just something to celebrate Valentines. <br />

Here is my first project. I sorta cheated on this one because it's not my idea. There is a tutorial for this pillow over at <b><a href="http://www.diaryofaquilter.com/2012/01/valentine-throw-pillow-tutorial.html">Diary of a Quilter.</a></b> If you haven't already checked out Amy's blog you should. Not only is she amazingly talented but super sweet. I changed mine up a little bit by adding the binding. This valentine fabric is by Cosmo Cricket for Moda.<br />

Downton Abbey is killing me. I'm ready to just go and buy the 2nd season. Watching it every Sunday for an hour is just not enough. The suspense is killing me, I NEED to know what is going to happen. Have I told you how much I love the clothes on this show. Sometimes I really think I was born in the wrong era. Although the thought of wearing a corset isn't all the appealing. I just love the dresses and hats though.</div>

I hope your are all having a great week. Be thinking of some Valentine ideas. I would love to have you link us up to them on Friday!<br />

Hopefully I will have it finished with some pictures by Monday. I sold some fabric on etsy and ebay and it seemed only right to use that money to buy some more fabric. Please tell me you understand. <br />
<br />
I found this sweet fabric over at <b><a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/freshsqueezedfabrics">Fresh Squeezed Fabrics</a></b> on Etsy. Wow, I could get in trouble spending too much time over there. She has such a fun selection of selection of Fabrics<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
I do have a plan for this fabric, I had to justify buying it somehow. I have a lot of neighbors and friends expecting babies. When I saw these bibs I thought they would be perfect.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Of course they are from over at <b><a href="http://nanacompany.typepad.com/">Nana Company</a></b>. I fall in love with everything she makes.<br />

I have a couple of other Valentine Projects I'm working on so come back on Monday, hopefully I'll have them finished. I'm so excited, tomorrow I get to hang out with my friend Cami. Me and Cami met when our husbands were in college up at Utah State. We lived in the same apartments. She's one of those kindred spirits. Were going to try and hit every fabric store in Northern Utah :)! Nicolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04595099393803175375noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-850622966956915487.post-66791107001143156042012-01-24T09:24:00.000-08:002012-01-24T09:32:04.984-08:00Hexagon Love! If someone would have told me in High School Geometry that I would have loved Hexagons this much I wouldn't have believed it. I know...... most people take it in Junior High, but Math was never a strong subject for me. I find myself wanting all my sewing projects to somehow involve hexagons.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIhmEYVoQJOtFaCwsNxdAlV-_pqQ4ea-aisLm6r9PR89v0LtWs3k8HUsVXWKJqexv-g_W-DMyd9di8MLQBiw3ExYxTJVtM6GPoXcPzTYUm3q-AAAPp9W_krCwnsW3yTYpOyCVajrJV3Web/s1600/Science+024.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIhmEYVoQJOtFaCwsNxdAlV-_pqQ4ea-aisLm6r9PR89v0LtWs3k8HUsVXWKJqexv-g_W-DMyd9di8MLQBiw3ExYxTJVtM6GPoXcPzTYUm3q-AAAPp9W_krCwnsW3yTYpOyCVajrJV3Web/s400/Science+024.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>It's probably pure laziness that I love them this much. I mean there just isn't anything better then putting on a good movie and hand sewing some hexagons. Right now I'm working on a Valentine project. I loved making my <b><a href="http://ourcozynest.blogspot.com/2012/01/my-finished-pillow.html">Christmas Pillow</a></b> so this this will be something similar to that, sorta.<br />

Last night we had the prettiest snow storm that I just had to take pictures. This is a picture of the outside of our house. <br />

We live in a neighborhood with a lot of pretty, big, old trees and I love how they look in the snow. I wish I could say I took these while a warm pot of soup was on the stove, but I took them from our car on the way to get Taco Time, it was one of those days.Nicolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04595099393803175375noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-850622966956915487.post-77222149107969404612012-01-19T16:54:00.000-08:002012-01-19T16:54:23.784-08:00baby it's cold outside!It's been pretty cold here in Utah. But honestly, I can't complain. My twin sister lives in Calgary Canada and she would put me in my place if I did. It has been a little colder than usual though. I saw a tutorial for these cute little hand warmers over at <b><a href="http://beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.com/2012/01/hotcold-bags-tutorial.html">Bee in my Bonnet</a></b> (such a cute and fun blog). I made one for my my oldest daughter and son and the neighbor boy they walk to school with. They were a hit! My son comes home from school wanting them warmed up too. I love how the tutorial has you line them with flannel, it makes them a lot softer. I'm thinking this would be the perfect Christmas gift for friends next year.<br />

<br />
I have been busy sewing other stuff too, but I can show you yet. It's my newest Moda project out of this fabric by Fig Tree that I just love. It's called California Girl - I love it! These are only a few of the cute prints and this picture does not do them justice.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZeSz26KgOnUqBG9h31CmCcyRemlbet1AwOWkxttcebjENfQuOMQjJ2F65GBYes6Yu1lqSEP_RUvABRhvRd4WEfn_TxhCjuzTfuW-weUEiyMF4CUpBB-7tnG2XvOGL-nn5251cA1SExmxj/s1600/Science+018.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZeSz26KgOnUqBG9h31CmCcyRemlbet1AwOWkxttcebjENfQuOMQjJ2F65GBYes6Yu1lqSEP_RUvABRhvRd4WEfn_TxhCjuzTfuW-weUEiyMF4CUpBB-7tnG2XvOGL-nn5251cA1SExmxj/s320/Science+018.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>Now for my critique of Downton Abbey. Never mind - I still don't like Thomas. Why does Matthews fiance have to be so nice and likable? She's messing everything up And there is my in depth critique, Sunday evening seems like a month ago, I guess I don't remember much.Nicolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04595099393803175375noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-850622966956915487.post-81054061224030230462012-01-16T16:49:00.000-08:002012-01-16T17:07:44.429-08:00Not a normal post!Have you ever visited a blog or followed it for so long that you felt like you almost knew that person? Well, that is how I have been with the blog <b><a href="http://randycourtneytripproth.blogspot.com/">EBing a Mommy</a></b>. I think I found this blog soon after she started it and have been following it ever since. It's about a two year old with a horrible skin disease called Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa. <br />
<br />
I have fallen in love with this sweet little boy and his mom. After such a horrible struggle with this disease, he is finally at peace. Saturday he returned home to Heaven. I cannot stop thinking about his sweet mom. I can't even imagine what she must be going through right now. I'm sure she is so happy he is finally free from pain, but the loss must be unbearable.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://randycourtneytripproth.blogspot.com/"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUOZz9ZR4CepN0qarcZ1GtqyIfxAidM9qrSiTxrroaf6hWMeJlaOsx-4NdLQ220i6LwtB1G4FK3wTklCRL9pbm5WcLLIZLtGBSxXyPgYbEzA_nwfj8euPILJ1r60Ey6rIbeZafLhTHZDsm/s200/blogbuttonnewprayingfortrippcopy.jpg" width="132" /></a></div><br />
Her blog taught me so much. It made me hug my kids tighter and try and be kinder. Sometimes parenting can be so hard, it's easy to become frustrated and loose our patience. This sweet mom just longed for the little things that parents like me take for granted. She would have done anything to see Tripp run or talk or be able to eat or see. My heart just hurts so much for her right now.<br />
<br />
I feel like I'm just babbling on, not sure what I'm trying to say. If you get the chance go and visit <b><a href="http://randycourtneytripproth.blogspot.com/">her blog.</a> </b> Say a little prayer that she will be comforted and at peace. I'm posting a poem she wrote to her sweet son, it's a tear jerker, but so beautiful. <br />

So how could I pass up the opportunity to get a few new fat quarters and give it a try. Plus it was my friends Birthday so I thought it would make the perfect gift.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCZ-mgg720GB4WAbFwldlQ4KyTVquV8RPdVTggI0vfqRgjBs0u-co5xdW6ZIatEylEEYai-bYXaf-flfj_tMn_sfOxEHRF60iHoGxUrbTKsA4yJvfvZsj033kVPNu8i9IaLzmsJ3owDfd3/s1600/Copy+of+tripps+quilt+013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCZ-mgg720GB4WAbFwldlQ4KyTVquV8RPdVTggI0vfqRgjBs0u-co5xdW6ZIatEylEEYai-bYXaf-flfj_tMn_sfOxEHRF60iHoGxUrbTKsA4yJvfvZsj033kVPNu8i9IaLzmsJ3owDfd3/s400/Copy+of+tripps+quilt+013.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I'm trying pay a little more attention to detail lately in my sewing. I think that's one of the things I love about the blog <a href="http://nanacompany.typepad.com/nanacompany/">Nana Company</a> (I know, I'm obsessed), she does a lot of cute little extra things in her sewing that adds so much. Anyways.............that's what I was going for in this little strip on the back, detail. I found this lace at Walmart of all places and thought it would work great.<br />

I don't know why it took me forever to figure out how to add these pockets for the book to slide into. I don't know why I'm admitting it either. Once I figure it out it was, I felt pretty stupid.<br />
