My good friends are starting an Internet lighting company. They will be selling every kind of light you could imagine. The problem..... They are having a hard time thinking of a name. So they need your help.

1.For one entry into the drawing - Think up a great name (preferable one with the word "lighting" in it). Go to my comments and tell me what you've come up with.

2. For another entry - Go visit their website - http://www.ftdc-utah.com/ or click here. Come back here, and tell them what you think. Do you like the design, is it user friendly? Give any advice you might have.

If you want to win 2 extra entries, post about this giveaway on your blog with a link back to this post.

You don't need a blog to enter, but if you don't have a blog, PLEASE leave me an e-mail address so I have a way to get in touch with you. Winner will have 48 hours to respond.

The winner will be picked next Friday at 5:00 p.m. Good luck!!!
Remember, to be entered into the drawing, you at the very least need to come up with a name. I'm getting lots of entries without that. Thanks!!!

I like "Sophisticated Illumination". Has a fancy ring to it, I think. That chandelier is beautiful! I'd love to win it. Their website is good, needs a little work. My eyes aren't good and I had a hard time reading it, the letters were kind of small for me. But they are headed in the right direction!

Oooo, I love naming things! Here are some name ideas I came up with:
Homes Aglow
Flip the Switch
Leave the Lights On
The Light Bulb
Let it Shine

This is so fun! I can't wait to see what they end up naming their lighting company!

I agree w/what others comments about the website. I suggest really making the pictures stand out.

Here's my suggestion:

"DeLightful"

...with the tagline of....

"Out of the darkness, into the Light"

Good luck! The lights are delightful, such beautiful products!
Blessings!

Ok, this is a duplicate comment so don't count it if it's chosen, but I wanted to some other names:

Simply DeLIGHTful
and

I stumbled onto your blog while browsing some other ones - the design is really cute!

What about "Limelight"? :)

"Light of Life" or "The Right Light"

As for their website:

Initially, I was a little overwhelmed as their first page has a lot to look at. I personally feel that the first page of a website should be simple with links to different categories. I wasn't sure if I should scroll down or click on a link to find items.

I like the color scheme and the word design across the top of the website.

After the initial page (once I clicked on a link), it became much easier to navigate.

I liked that you could calculate the shipping costs prior to checking out. This is a nice feature.

I was a little confused when I clicked on "mirrors" why at the top of the page it said "candles". Is this supposed to happen?

Overall, that is my first impression. They seem to have high quality items and the site seems fairly easy to use. Good luck to them!

Thank you for running this giveaway! It is an amazing prize to win.

I'm thinking NKOTB... The Light Stuff (Oh oh oh oh oh, The Light Stuff!)

I took a look at the website. I liked it. I didn't think it was too dark and it was easy to navitgate. Easy for anyone to find what they're looking for!

In my past life (BK, before kids), I was a graphic designer... so... let me say... I know what I'm talking about (not really... :)... just trying to make myself sound important... LOL).

The website, in my opinion... is so not the right mood for what I would want in a lighting storefront. Personally, when I think of lighting, I think of yellow and any warm colors, soft glows, etc. Grey, how they have it... is just too cold to me. I think they can have a professional look but have a softer side... just like lighting!

Otherwise, I think the website is very functional and easy to use. Just some edits here and there (bear with me, you asked for it):

1) Expanding pages that fit whatever width you've got your browser set to (maximize, minimize, etc) look really messy as they get really stretched out with those of us who have large monitors and like to use every inch. Keeping them set to a set width will look more organized and give the eye some consistency even in things are constantly changing.

2) A little white space goes a long way! Having some spacing between long rows of images (example) goes a long way. I like how the Related Products (bottom right) are separated so you can see they're not one stacked lamp on top of another and how with the line division its more clear what title goes with what image as opposed to the main lighting page where the lines are underneath the title separating them from the images. Perhaps setting up a table consisting of more than one row would be more pleasing to look at... since there isn't much information with each image.

3) I think pricing is important... but I think it's pretty standard for SALE pricing to be red... not the actual price. If you want to highlight it maybe a more subtle color like blue? And the red only for marked down sale items. (And if you're not getting sick of me... you might by this one.) Also, "our pricing" would make more sense to me... if they were showing comparative pricing, but they're not, so "price" would be just as effective.

Now for the fun part (and hopefully to get you to like me again since I'm such a critic)... names:

The Lighter Side

Obvious Lighting (teehee - but it's not as bad as Lighting Up, I'm sorry... that just makes me think of smoking! Sorry to whomever suggested that!)

Light House (this could be fun and whimsical... a little light that looks like a house... rather than an actual lighthouse)

Lights On

Home Light

Lights of Life

The High Light (Like the high life - wait... isn't that a beer line?? or highlight?! *grin*)

Lights (simple... but clear)

Ooooh! I want to win! So I am going to go all out and get four entries. ;-)

I redecorated my bedroom, and now I would like to do my bathroom, and that chandaliar would be BEAUTIFUL for the lighting!!

Ok For a name, the first thing that popped into my head was
"Luminous Lighting" Luminous means "glowing" so I think it is a very romantic name. :)

I went to their website, and depending on the name that they choose, it may need to be changed. Me being a woman, it looked to cold and plain. I think Green, or beige would be a better color.

And I wrote about the contest on my blog and linked it to yours. You can see it here:
http://heartofamommytoo.blogspot.com/2008/08/in-decorating-mood.html

If I should happen to win, you can contact me through my blog, or the email address in my profile. :)

Thanks!

The chandy is beautiful.
My name suggestion: Lightscape
I love the idea that looking at a beautiful lighting fixture can be as nice as looking out the window at a beautiful landscape.

I didn't have time to read all of the other ideas, but I have a great one! "Shine". It's chic and catchy.

My suggestion is "Enlightening Designs"
I suggest that the pictures or the items be larger, or have the option to click for a larger display, and since clicking on the "more info" button doesn't give more info, I'd give less info at the beginning (less words, more picture). Also, different color hues for the background of the website, and possibly a "storefront" would be appealing.
God bless,
jenberly

I posted a few days back but had to come back when another name came to me. How about "The Light Switch"?

Comments now number 220 and I don't have time to read them all to make sure I haven't duplicated somebody else's entry. I hope I haven't - please forgive if I did!

Blessings,

What a beautiful chandelier! My suggestion is "Illuminating Lighting"!

Sarah said...

My name entry: "First Light"

The site seems easy to navigate and the layout is nice....but I don't like the gray color scheme on the side and top bars. Maybe something with more..."light"? ;)

Name idea - "Artistic Illumination". This was Jay's idea. I like this name! I don't know if it has been suggested so far. Other brainstorming ideas: "Radiant Lighting" or "Luminous Lighting".

The website is professional and easy to understand. I like how the actual prices are printed in red. The site has a wonderful variety of products. Very good taste in style.

WOW! That light is gorgeous! We're remodeling/adding on to a one room schoolhouse and we're getting close to the lighting part, so I've added their site to my fav's. So many great things to choose from! As for a name, I really like the sound of "Lighting the Way" . . .
