My husband's Aunt lets us come to her house every year and pick all her rasberries. This year we got all these frozen rasberries and.............
Our bishops wife gave me two boxes full of pears! I ended up getting like 16 quarts of pears.
Our neighbor have us two big baskets of tomatoes, now I have 18 quarts of tomatoes!
My mom lets me pick her grapes every year since I'm the only one that does any canning. My friend Lawon always helps me and then we split it. This year we got 80 quarts of grape juice.
I think thats everything. I didn't even tackle doing peaches this year. Here in Utah if you volunteer at the LDS church cannery then they will usually let you buy what they are canning for a way good price, so I bought peaches through them this year! That was definitely easier and probobly cheaper then doing it myself.
So the moral of this post is........... be careful who you tell that you like to can. You might be a really busy woman. Ok, so I've always wanted to try pickles, so if someone taught me how to do it I probobly would.
Oh good for you!!! I canned NOTHING this year. How terrible am I!!
ReplyDelete;)R.
I too love to can but also get tired of it close to the end. You did a great job and will be reaping the rewards the rest of the year.
ReplyDeleteI would love to can just have no idea how!
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous. I have no clue how to can. Everything looks sooooo yummy!
ReplyDeleteI bet it feels so good to have that much done. I don't have any canning equipment but every time I go grocery shopping I try to buy a few extra cans of fruit, tomatoes and several other things . The last time I got home and went to put them away, I realized my cupboards were really filling up. It brought me a feeling of peace.
ReplyDeletePickles are really not that hard. I tried them this year. I did dill pickles, a recipe from high school home ec. I also did bread and butter pickles. My aunt makes a sweet pickle that I love. I ran out of cucumbers before I could try it....there is always next year. I can't believe you did 80 quarts of grape juice. I did a little too. I also tried to make grape jelly.....ummm I ended up with syrup. It is crazy good on pancakes :) Shhh, Don't tell anyone, but we might be headed back to Utah, maybe even Logan, possibly SLC. If we do, we definately need to do some canning together next fall!
ReplyDeleteThat is really Cami, not Travis. I forgot to log him out :)
ReplyDeleteI keep on begging my mom to teach me how to can. Unfortunately I don't think it is going to happen . She learned when she was a young girl from my Nanny. Once she got married and moved away from home she never canned.
ReplyDeleteI loved going to my grandparents though and having yummy peaches, apricots, plums and pears. She also made applesauce.
Fond memories. I guess I need to pick up a book and learn on my own.

I know canning isn't about pretty stuff, but your jars are beautiful! If I were you, I would be tempted to take that door off the pantry so everyone could see the lovely colors (and the results of all that hard work!)
ReplyDeleteYou're set for the winter! I'm kind of jealous. You have a big pantry.
ReplyDeleteWow! I am impressed. That is a skill that I need to learn. How awesome that you were able to do that for your family and what a nice stash for you food storage. Good job!
ReplyDeleteMmm...that will be so great this winter. My mom always canned produce. There was nothing like eating peaches in the middle of winter. Tasted great. Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteWowee. You are a better woman than me!! lol.
ReplyDeleteLooks great.
WOW...everything looks so wonderful! I wouldn't have the first clue of what to do to can something!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great feeling! I love to can but by the end of the season I know how tiring it can be. Your bottles look so pretty all full of your hard work.
ReplyDeleteI know canning is a lot of work and talent. I don't can but my mom did. When you reach for something this winter that is when you will reap the rewards. It will feel well worth it!!
ReplyDeleteYou put my little storage to shame with all your hard work! I first tried canning when I was pregnant and just can't do it. The smells make me soooooo nauseous even after 24 years!! I admire your hard work and what a comfort to have food in the cupboard and freezer! I've never learned to make rasberry jam bz my MIL does it and always gives us a bazillion jars of it! Yup, I'm lazy when it comes to canning and freezing!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to try making strawberry jam this year, but ended up freezing the berries whole instead. Maybe next year!
ReplyDeleteI want to can with you!!! I really need to learn how to do it!!
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks so great!! You will really be enjoying that for a while.
