I made these for my little boys room when we first bought our home. I had some left over fabric from some bumper cushions. If I were going to do these again, I would not put so many tabs on them.
A good rule of thumb when your trying to decide how much fabric to use is 1 1/2 - 2 times the width of your window and then just however long you want them to be. I promise I didn't just make that up, I worked in a few fabric stores in High School and College. I always like to hang my window treatments high because I really don't like the window to show through at the top. It also makes the window look bigger.
I did the same thing in my kitchen bay window. For this window I used some tea towels. They worked really good because the fabric is a little heaver than normal fabric. I did double up the tea towels though, it just looked better.
If I were to do these again I would have make them a little longer, but oh well. The treatments on the side were really easy. I just sewed two towels together and made a casing at the top and bottom for a rod to go through. Then I just tied a piece of ribbon around the middle.
Sorry about the picture, I was trying to be a little to creative with my camera!
These side treatments were desperately needed. This window is in the front of our house and right next to the front porch and front door. I felt like everyone who came to the front door could see right into our kitchen, which I didn't like days that I didn't get ready until noon.
And there ya have my Window Mistreatment's that Don't have to be perfect to be beautiful!!!
These look really nice. I haven't attempted the tab top curtain yet, but yours make me want to try.
ReplyDeleteOoooo...you did a great job!!!

ReplyDeleteI love it! I bought some tea towels to make a roman shade for my back door...but I'm too scared to start since I don't have a clue what I'm doing. I wish you were still next door!
ReplyDeleteAlso I need ideas for my livingroom windows. When I get around to it, I'm going to e-mail you a picture and see if you have any thoughts for window "mistreatments" :o)
Very cool idea sewing two towels together. Why didn't I think of that. DUH!!!!

They aren't mistreatments! They look nice.
ReplyDeleteThose look great! I'm always so impressed with any project that involves a sewing machine. I have one but I don't even know how to thread it. Hangs head in shame.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping you don't get sick too!
These look great! I love window treatments but cannot decide on a fabric for my living room so it is the one room without anything. :) Yours look great though!
ReplyDeleteI used to have that exact same bay window in my kitchen. Where were you when I needed you? I couldn't ever find the right way to cover them.
