My very own Ragamuffin Garland

So you all remember the Nester's Ragamuffin Garland. Well, I've been wanting to make one forever. My little sister made a couple and they were so cute. I finally got around to it, so here ya go...............

The nester was right when she said that these take a lot of fabric, mine isn't very big and it took about 5 yards of ribbon and 1 yard of fabric. I think I could have easily used 2 yards, and squished it all closer together so it was more full, but I was too lazy to go and buy more.

I bought the M from Hobby Lobby for 99 cents, and painted it Blue. Then I sanded and stained the edges to give it that distressed look. My hubby drilled a hole in it so I could hang it from the ribbon.

I hung it my favorite way to hang everything. With knobs from Home Depot.

And ta da, here it is........

It really was a lot of fun to make, I'd like to make one for my daughters room now. Just a hint, my sister made hers out of remnants of drapery fabric. I think it worked a little better, the stiffer fabric made it look a little more full.

Someone asked me if I made the quilt. I wish I could take the credit, but no. I saw this one at a place called The Village Quilt Shop at a place here in Utah called Gardner Village. I priced out what it would cost me to make it and then have it quilted, and well it wasn't that much more just to buy it, and I figured my time was worth something right.

  1. Nicole, will you please come help me decorate my house? I've asked several friends to come help but they must not think I'm serious. If only they knew how serious I am. Did you know that I've lived here six months and my walls are STILL bare. Yep. military housing white walls with not a thing on them.... I'm desperate!!!

  5. Great job! I love the idea of using knobs. I always complicate things and run to PB to buy the expensive picture knobs! Now that I think about it, isn't it really the same thing...just a whole lot cheaper?! Thanks for the great tip!

I've been to The Village Quilt Shop with my MIL. It was great. Actually, all of Gardner Village was fun. It reminds me of Mystic Village in CT.

I agree with the time and cost of making a quilt. All of my chick-a-dee's quilts are purchased. I love them and don't feel guilty at all! :)

  7. Adorable! I love the star above the garland as well. I created a garland after visiting The Nesting Place. However, it hangs on the wall with nothing above it. I keep thinking...it needs something and now that I have seen your star, it opens up so many possibilities! Now ... where to find the star ... smile!!

  11. Very nice! I made one to match my kitchen but it doesn't work where I wanted to put it. I was so disappointed! I did buy the fabrics to make one for above my daughter's bed--I need to get on that project!

  12. I love love it! How creative of you! It looks great with the star above the bed. Not too much decor for a boy. Works and looks great!!!
Tell me the secrets of digital. Did you just learn it. Did someone teach you. What sites do you like. HOw long does it take to do a page. How much does it cost to print the pages.
Ok-so did I ask enough questions?

I love the flowers. I am so jealous of your hostas!!

  16. That turned out cute!! Your litte guy is lucky to have such a cute room. Several years ago we made wreaths like this -- you just tie the fabric & ribbon to a vine wreath. With all the fun new colors and fabrics & stuff I just might have to try one again!!
