For the LOVE of Fabric..................

I think it may be fair to say that  I've been a little out of control lately when it comes to fabric. Ya know how some people love shoes, and some people clothes, my downfall has been fabric. Pretty fabric just makes me so darn happy.  I get all giddy waiting for the UPS man to come.

I've wanted some of this fabric forever.  I always wait to long and then I can't find it anywhere. This is Bliss by Bonnie and Camille, probably my favorite fabric designer.  Isn't it pretty.......I really want more from the collection and when I saw these 5 fat quarters for 10 dollars I jumped on it.

I don't remember who this fabric is by.   My daughter picked it out.  If I wasn't lazy I go look and see, but I'm feeling lazy today.  My  10 year old daughter has been really struggling lately with anxiety.  Lucky girl, why do they have to inherit all the crappy stuff from their parents.  I've been at a loss for what to do for her.  Doctors don't seem to want to diagnose it.   It's not like I want to get her on medicine (unless of course she needs it), but I want to know what I can do to help her.  She has stomach aches almost daily.  Sorry I don't mean to tell all our problems, but maybe it some of you have been through this you can offer me some advice?  Long story short, the week her anxiety was really bad I told her if she would go to school every day I would buy her some fabric and we could make her a quilt.

This fabric is for my newest Moda project.  It's butterscotch and roses by Fig Tree and I LOVE it.

My project is going to be out of these fabric's.  I can't wait to show it to you.  It's going to be one of those long term projects, but hopefully I will get in done in a few months.

I've had this fabric for a while.  I bought it because I really want to make a pin wheel quilt
out of it.

Just like this one from V and Co.

Guess what............Thanksgiving is at my house this year.  Crazy - well to me it's crazy.   It seems like such a grown up thing to have Thanksgiving at your house.  I guess it's official I'm a grown - up.  I guess I should be by now, seeing that I'm married with four kids and all.    I hope you all have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. I LOVE your fabric choices!! And my daughter also has some anxiety issues. Her's are not tied to going to school but with performing perfectly at every activity (from teeball, to schoolwork, to social encounters) whether or not that is even possible.

It is frustrating to see her upset when I know it's not worth getting upset over. We've talked with her numerously about taking deep breaths, cutting herself some slack, remembering to smile, and getting plenty of rest. My husband reminds me that all we can do is keep working with her and praying. I don't have any real solutions, but at least you can know you're not alone.

  2. That second line is from Riley Blake, but I can't remember what it's called.

My 10 year old has been on medication for OCD/anxiety since he was 7. The day the Dr. prescribed it I cried, but it helped so much. He used to wash his hands so much they were completely raw. Within days after starting the meds his hands cleared up.

My 6 yr. old has a lot of anxiety also. I worry about him but he's too young for medication anyway so we just talk to him and bribe him :o)

And that last picture? Makes me want to cry. V and I made our pinwheel quilts together. I quilted hers...but mine is still waiting in a pile to be quilted.

She and I tromped through the snow more than once to take pictures of quilts on that fence with the barn in the background :o)

  3. Love that first set of fabrics!!

I am sorry you guys are dealing with anxiety! I have dealt with depression since my early teen years and it is no fun! My sister just started selling doterra oils and has told me there are several for anxiety. They are pricey but might be something to look into. I haven't personally tried them but I have tried their one for illness, on guard, and it has helped. Good luck!

  4. You may want to see if she is being bullied at school by someone....usually there is a trigger for anxiety....when my oldest daughter was in the 3rd grade she developed stomach aches and had to breath in a paper bag...all of this was caused from being bullied from another classmate...after the problem was taken care of it stopped the anxiety....or maybe the teacher is causing the anxiety...you never know these days with all the stress young children are under when not at home...I do hope this clears up for her and will be praying for her....

  6. I was about your daughters age when I started having anxiety problems. I had no idea that's what was wrong at the time, I just thought I was sick a lot but it got to where I didn't want to go to school or anywhere else. I still struggle with it but with meds am doing great. My best advice is to always be there for her (I know you are) and take all of her concerns seriously....extra TLC never hurts either. :) I never felt like my mom really understood and didn't really listen the way I wanted her too. Someone mentioned maybe something going on at school....worth looking into you. That quilt will be so special to her and be a constant reminder of your love for her!

  7. I know that fish oil, Omega 3,6, and 9 have been found to be helpful with depression. My eldest daughter, also 10, doesn't have an issue with anxiety, but she is very moody and these have helped her even things out.

In grade school I cried every school day because of being bullied. It's worth looking into.

This may seem "over the top", but have you ever considered home schooling? Even just for a year? If my mom had been able to do that, things would have been much better for me and my sister. I realize it's not for everyone, but it's at least worth thinking about. Sometime taking the child out of the troublesome environment for a time until they are older and able to cope better can help.

I LOVE the fabrics from Fig Tree!

  8. We had problems when my youngest was 6. He had constant stomach aches and always looked like he was sick. He would scream and refuse to get on the bus or be dropped off at school. Everyone told me I was being a bad mother because I didn't force him to do these things. As far as we know there was no bullying (started on the first day of first grade), he was just so stressed out. We pulled him from school and homeschooled him until 7th grade (this year). He is now a well rounded, happy kid with lots of friends. He only had these problems with school so this worked out for us. Have you thought of taking her to a therapist to see if she has any issues with school or anything else? It's so hard to see our kids go through these things. Breaks a Momma's heart.

Your daughter chose some wonderful fabric. I'm sure you guys will have lots of fun making her quilt togther.

  11. I'm now a follower and love the fabrics you've shown. I would love to win the "Ruby" fabric. It does make a beautiful little bag, doesn't it?
Maybe the anxiety is tied in with hormones?? I know we went through it with my daughter as well. It hit about the time she hit puberty. It always hurts when your child is suffering from anything, no matter how big or small the problems seem to be. It's much easier to deal with hurts we can see. I can certainly sympathize with you and your daughter.

  13. My adult daughter developed anxiety last spring into this summer to the point she thought she might have to quit school. I did some research and discovered a list of vitamins she could try especially the B's (which from what I understand help with the nervous system). I can't recommend it as a cure but can suggest researching it. My daughter went back to school and hasn't experienced any anxiety since taking the supplements.
