Quilts for my Babies!

I decided that I was going to make a quilt for each of my children when they were babies. My daughter being the first was lucky and got two.

My sister n' law gave me the fabric for this one and I love it. It' s vintage (re-make) fabric, and I loved how it turned out. This quilt was also super easy. It's just 4 inch squares. The bottom and top row are the same so you make the squares 8 in x 4 in and cut it in half, and so on.

I also made this one for her. This one's more complicated, it required a pattern. Also made from vintage (re-make) fabric.

I made this one for my son who's now 4. I was lucky, my incredibly talented friend lived in the apartment below us, and she quilted it. I wish you could see the quilting from this picture. It has little stars all over it, it's so cute.

I made this quilt out of different plaid fabrics. Once again, same easy pattern that I used on my daughters.

Now, for the baby...... You guessed it, I haven't even started on one and he's almost 17 months old. I need to get my act together and make one for him, the first child gets so spoiled, it's just not fair. In my defense, I had planned on making him one, when he decided to come 5 weeks early and sorta threw things off. Here's a picture to prove it. He still weighed a whopping 7lbs 2 ounces. He spent about 5 days in the NICU. Besides his early entrance into this world, he has been the sweetest, easiest baby. Everyone says the 3rd is the hardest. Not this guy, he has been a piece of cake.

So, now I need to get my act together and make him a quilt and you can be sure I'll blog all about it when it's finished.

  1. Don't feel too bad...my youngest is THREE and I still haven't made his quilt. At this point I'm going make him a twin size--eventually.

I love the second quilt pattern. What is it called?

  2. Those are beautiful! I have always wanted to make a quilt and haven't gotten around to it. I don't want to do the kinds of quilts where you are tying them with yarn. I want to actually quilt it.

Did you friend do it by hand or with a machine? I wouldn't dare do it by hand. I simply don't have the patience.

  3. Those quilts are precious! My mom has made a quilt for each grandchild to have as a blankie, and they each drag them around the house constantly! I have made a few, but mine have been much more basic (just squares).

p.s. Thanks for the recipe; I'm going to have to give it a try!

All the quilts are beautiful! You are really talented. I can't even get my sewing machine to turn on! Wait... do you even use a sewing machine to make quilts? See, I know nothing! LOL

  5. I made my son a rag quilt last year out of different firetruck materials. Yep that's about it. I would love to make a real quilt though, but I have no idea how to bind them or for that matter quilt it. LOL.

Your's are beautiful. Great selection on fabrics.

  8. I haven't quilted in forever! Your quilts are gorgeous... I'm sad to say mine never looked that good! My favorite part was making the tops... I don't actually like the QUILTING part. hee hee I only ever did the 'stitch in the ditch' quilting... it was fast and easy. Isn't that sad? lol

  13. I am SO impressed. I secretly have always wanted to learn how to make quilts. I am looking into taking a beginner's sewing class this fall.
Seems silly a 40 year old woman would do this....we'll see!

    The quilts are just beautiful!
