Teletubbies???

So I sat down with my kids this morning to watch cartoons. I've seen them watching telebubbies before, but never really paid attention, until today. WEIRD!!! How did these freaky creatures make it onto television, and why do kids like them so much? You can't even understand what on earth their saying half the time. The whole episode is like 5 minutes long, but repeated six times. If ya ask me their a little scary looking, shouldn't my kids be frightened by them, I was. I used to not like Barney, but now I don't think he's so bad, at least he speaks correct English. Am I just being mean?

  1. I outlawed Teletubbies in my house before my kids were even born. It's creepy!!!

  2. I'll agree that they're creepy. My biggest issue with them, though, is something that you mentioned, the baby talk. It seems like that would hinder speech development.

  3. Hi Nicole....you stopped by my blog last week and I am just now getting back to you! Yes, the tubbies, as I call them, are creepy and have no redeeming value whatsoever near as I can tell. They don't speak so there aren't any language skills kids who view it are learning...go back to Barney!!!

  4. YES, they are creep-e. Seriously, and yet my kids get all slack jawed and drool when they come on. Not really, but they will stop what they're doing and run to watch it.

    Creepy.

  7. My friend used to keep a little girl and everytime the baby would appear in the sun (btw - what the heck?),the little girl would point to it and say "Eets da scawy baby!" Hilarious!

  8. I think that teletubbies is missing their true audience. Drunk college students. Tripping hippies. Stoner slackers. I think the creators must belong to one of those groups anyway :-)

  9. Uh....teletubbies.....I think the only words (if you can call them that) are, "uh-oh" and "uh-huh".

    Gawd! They drive me nuts.

Came on over by SITS btw.
    Your blog is great!

  11. Yep...those teletubbies. I had to change the channel often, although the kids started watching so much TV we had to get rid of cable. I know, I know...but seriously, they get outside a little more now.

  12. I know - I tuned in once and it is WAY weird!!! The music too. It kind of freaked me out...I banned them! :)

Saw your site on SITS! Congrats!

  13. And do you know who was one of the brains behind Teletubbies? American Idol's own Simon Cowell. Yup, do a google search for Simon Cowell and Teletubbies and you will see that I am speaking the truth. Well, I frequently speak the truth but this is the truth with google supporting me while I out Simon Cowell.

By word verification is vogmitt so while you are googling, check if vogmitt is german for vomit because it sounds like it to me.

  14. i think teletubbies is one of the worst kids shows ever. the only one that comes close in my book is that boobah one, which i've never actually sat and watched. Teletubbies is banned!

anyways, it's been fun reading your blog! found you through SITS!

  15. Oh they are superweird. And it is scary the way kids totally zone out with them!

  16. Hey there, I'm over from SITS. My kids and I still make fun of the UH-OH from the teletubbies. They can do it way better than me. Have a great day!

  17. LOL Nicole. The Teletubbies have been baffling me since my nephew was hooked on them as a toddler.... and he's 13 now! I never did get the attraction. Just be thankful if you've never had to see an episode of "In the Night Garden". It's along the same vein, and equally as scary!

It's hardly fair really is it. The US sends us The Backyardigans (Do you want to make pieee... my fave episode!) and Higglytown Heroes, and we send you the Tellytubbies. On behalf of the UK, I apologise! ;)

  18. I've often wondered if maybe the Brits understood them better than we do. I think I'm doing good, though. I understand "Uh-oh, LaaLaa" "Uh-oh, Tinky Winky" That much I get. The only thing about the show that I actually like is looking at the scenery. I don't know where they film at, but that grassy hillside looks wonderful! I want to go outside and dance around amid bunnies!

  19. Disturbing, yes. My kids liked watching for about five minutes, and then gave up. They also liked another creepy one that was on right after...what was it called? Oh yeah -- "Boohbah." What the heck was that???

  20. The song that was playing is so good!
I've never heard of Kalai. Thanks for the introduction.

  21. I agree with you on the Teletubbies they are really creepy.
I found your blog through SITS I have to tell you that I love your Kitchen re-do I'm obsessed with black furniture etc.

  22. nothing mean about it..they are very weird and have never liked them. We never did watch them here either..they are just too weird.

  23. don't feel bad. Teletubbies scare me too. Also The Wiggles. On the other hand you might want to check out Word World (PBS at 11am) and The Backyardigans (which comes on more frequently than Word World). Those are two kid shows that I don't mind letting the kids I work with watch (and my nieces love them too!). I've found Word World especially can hold the interest of kids from 15 months to 6 and older!

  24. Hi I came over from SITS and congrats on being featured today...way to go. I for one love the Teletubbies. I know it's weird but it's just plain fun!!!

  25. I can not subject myself or my kidlets to watching Teletubbies... I'll take Dora, The Wiggles, almost anything else on Nickelodeon.

    Great blog design!

  26. Agreed, they are scary!
Don't like them one bit, but my little niece is obsessed

Congrats on the SITS love today!

  30. So I just came over from SITS. I can't believe Teletubbies are still around. My oldest which is now 11 loved them. And then the whole thing came out about Tinky-Winky being Gay or something. They scared me a little then too. It's nice to meet you and your cards are amazing. Would love for you to make me some. Do you do that? I seen the post on the card swap thing but the only thing I'm good at is crocheting and cross-stitching. Other than that I'm clueless.

  31. Visiting via SITS. Love your blog. Teletubbies ARE freaky. And I LOVE your kitchen redo. I would have never thought of painting cabinets black, but it looks so classy. Bravo!

  32. my son never really liked them thank goodness! My son does love his shows though right now he loves "Wow Wow Wubzy" and "Scooby Doo" I pay extra for Noggin so at least his tv watching is commercial free! Nice to meet you!

  33. Came to your blog via SITS. Love the kitchen and can't stand the Teletubbies or Barney, my youngest is hooked on Barbie right now-- not a whole lot better, at least I can understand the dialogue.

  34. I'm visinting from SITS & I concur on the tubby creep factor! My girls, thankfully, left the stage of liking this show very quickly. It's mind numbing watching those 4 portly things move about on the screen.

  35. Couldn't agree more. Creepy. Creepy. Creepy. But why do the have such a mezmorizing effect on kids?

    ReplyDelete
  36. We refuse to allow teletubbies in my house. I work too hard to teach my children to speak properly the last thing I need is some evil alien creature tell them that "hello" is really "Eh oh".

Oh and that baby in the sun looks like satan. *looks around in a paranoid way*

  37. OMG so my first trip to your blog and I get blinded. What the heck. Those things scare me. :-)

  38. My niece used to love Teletubbies but they are really weird. Saw you on SITS, so I decided to check out your blog.

  39. they are banned in my house for just that reason - freaks... adnthey don't make sense... like the vacum that runs around in a circle... what is that about?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I haven't heard of Super Readers. I'll have to check that one out. And I also love the songs on your playlist. I've kept your site open in a browser while I was at work so I could listen to the music!

  41. Thanks for stopping by. The dresser did not come from a thrift store. :-)

It was my father-in-law's when he was a child. My in-laws gave it to us a while back. I love it too. It's my favorite piece of furniture in my house.

  42. They are STILL showing them??

My son, who will be 11 in a month, used to love them...cut me some slack, I was still recovering from his older brother worshiping Barney! LOL

  43. Found you by way of SITS. Great post. I myself have never watched Teletubbies. I do however have to watch Yo Gabba Gabba on Noggin nearly every day. What a creapy show. I think the writers may have eaten some left handed brownies.

  44. Saw you on SITS. Love your music--Kalai--never heard it before...great music! :)

  45. Even with a late start,y ou are getting all caught up! Hope you are enjoying your day in the comment lovin'!

  46. OHMYGOSH! I HATE them! They are totally stupid, senseless, horrific, Creepy, baby talk, yucky,. . . what else can I say?

I didn't like Mr. Rogers when I grew up, but when my baby loved him so much, I watched him and he was so sweet, and gentle, always had a kind thing to say, a little bit sappy, but Hey, I'll take him over any teletubby, barney or elmo ANY DAY.

  47. I, too, do not get the intrigue of Teletubbies. I'm glad my son doesn't know who any tv characters are (yet).

I didn't realize you were in Utah. My husband & I would love to move that way; it's just so hard to get into the Forest Service.

  48. So-if I already commented on these posts, do you want to hear my boring, nonintersting comments again? Congrats on sits! I am jealous! Now you are going to have some many people be a part of your card swap-you are not going to know what to do with yourself! Let me know if there is anything that i can help you with!!

  49. Yeah, why do they repeat the same little segment over and over. The first time I sat down to watch Teletubbies and saw this lazy way to fill 30 minutes I thought I had fallen into some alternate universe of torturous deja vu. I find that I am transfixed by The Doodlebops. I could stare at their makeup and costumes all day. Now who is creepy? :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. I have always had a problem with Teletubbies girl! I believe that the repetition of the short episode is to brainwash the kids. With what? I'm not sure, but there is something off with that little production. Oh and the way the creatures communicate is awful!! I see no educational value in that show.

  51. Wee One discovered it for the first time this morning. He was in a total trance. I don't get it. And I'm so glad I read this, because now I know I'm not crazy. I'm watching it and thinking, didn't they just do that?
